Ebay shop v Dealers website prices

Original subject just responded to my mail. He is not who i thought but an independent using R*M pics. Seemed odd. Yes I know sellers can nick pics from other sellers courtesy Ebay, lazy barstewards!!

On e-bay, Commando Specialties sells the same things they have on their site, but slightly lower in price, the trick is to bid the asking price and never bid a cent more, if a fool (is it OK to say that about a fellow Norton owner  ) wants it for more than the web site price, then just let it go and buy it from the web site or wait until he relists the same thing again. I bought a SS front axle that way, cheaper than his web site price, not by much, but I like the extra to be in my pocket rather than his.

Hmm Must be connected with them I would have thought as one of the items they are listing are extended fork top bushes which I thought were only available from R*M (listed on their website for £14 as opposed to ebay £25).
As for the other Jokers selling damaged cases and worn out front disks etc for stupid money just leaves me amazed, perhaps its just a ploy to try and make us think Norton parts are worth more than they really are :?

New Exhaust Nuts.....
Ebay: "Buy It Now!" $50 +shipping
domiracer.com $30 +shipping

With all that's involved in maintaining and improving a 38 year old scooter, 20 bucks here and there adds up fast.
I use Ebay more to sell things I don't need, and I try to sell them as cheap as possible. I guess I want to help our tribe of dedicated fools any small way I can.

Cheers,

Don

yep, they're the same people who pushed the prices through the roof in the UK, and threatened people who bid against them when they were buying everything in sight.....and yes, I can prove it!!!

Whether you're an investment banker making million dollar bonuses or an ebay seller scrounging for nickels and dimes how we all make our money is not always glorious. I have to fault the dough heads who bid these high prices equally as much. The same thing happens at your local live auctions at auction houses. People know what they want to spend but very often lose their cool and try to out bid their opponent in the heat of the moment. Unless you're trying to win an item that is truly rare, keep your cool, there'll be another one next week.

I know they've a rep for being greedy but threats? Without going into it too much how did they bully other bidders? Offline somehow?

Thought so too which if true is very disappointing since they were one outfit I had some respect for. Still we have a choice and at least there's no chance of MH doing the Ebay thing!!
Not seen you online for a while!!

There's a set of jigs for doing big valve conversions listed at the moment. The arsehole seller has put the instruction manual up as separate item

That's probably the most disgusting post I've come across a forum in a very, very long time. Don't call people arseholes if you're too dumb to read and understand. Is there actually a killfile on this forum for such a disgusting troll?

What you refer to is actually a set of jigs and tools to carry out a big valve conversion the seller developped himself - the description is pretty clear about this. For this he had to do reverse engineering of the head, did all the design on the jigs, had them cast, machined and doweled. What you buy is some kit and loads of know how and a proven concept of how to do a BV conversion.

On top of that he compiled a manual himself which he put on auction for GBP10. That means for a pretty low sum you can actually buy most of the know how without having to buy the jigs. I contacted the guy to find out some details, very helpful and cool chap and definetly one of the nicer ebayers. I'd highly recommend this manual to anyone interested in performance mods on Nortons, it's pretty cheap for what you get.

The jigs guy has answered a question he has explained that the jigs come with the manual as std, the manual only listing is for people to understand the work involved before commiting to buy the jigs, he also offers to do the first head as training if the buyer visits with their head.

I tend to wander in and out of forums as the mood takes me, trouble is you can be gone a while and then pop your nose in and find someone has developed some bit of kit that you must have for your P&J and spend some coin, this is what just happened when I looked into the forum and L.A.B had just posted about Lansdowne engineering's new fork damper kits. Well the inevitable happened and I had to have them, ordered them through ebay and they arrived today excellent looking bit of kit, even supplied a top nut spanner and John was a pleasure to deal with. Don't hold your breath waiting for a report on them as I am not sure when I will get round to fitting them but I am sure they will please.
Must admit to also being intrigued by the dirty dealings of certain Norton dealers but imagine that may be a tough one to discuss.
Back to lurk mode.

The seller listing the items using RGM photos is from Whitehaven, the place where John Paul Jones invaded the UK a few years ago :) , its close to RGM say 10 miles away.

He has this odd comment, 'Hello, my items are listed else where and could be sold at any time.'

Could he just be selling items he does not have and then buying them from RGM, the above comment would cover him if they had sold out at RGM. He also sells KTM, Suzuki and Kawasaki parts which I have never seen for sale at RGM

Its odd anyway, his feedback is getting dodgy too with 2 recent negs. He is also not listed as a business seller which if it is RGM they should be.

Having just got off the phone from ordering some parts from RGM I couldn't help resist asking the nice lady if there was any connection between them and the ebay seller and she said there wasn't, he was just a guy who came in and bought bits of them. I said what about the photo's being used and she said he has been asked not to use them anymore.
So there we have it the ebay guy is just a chancer hoping to capitalise on ebayer users ignorance and not do their homework and source bits from cheaper sources, in this case the original supplier. Glad thats the case as its put RGM back up in my opinion as a good honest dealer.

It doesn't get much better than that...

He did respond saying he wasn't RGM. Good to hear they confirmed it. Still, with Ebay anyone can use anyone elses pics> I have a mate whose living is earned from Ebay selling Corgi and Dinkys etc. Some competitors take his pics wholesale and he gets strife when buyers accuse him of using someone elses' pics!!

Best way to stop (ok make it harder) pictures being stolen is to add a watermark of your seller handle to all the photos.

Hello Keith. I think you will find the Lansdowne Dampers a sheer Delight.....Duncan Fitchett as fully tested them :!: Simply dial in what ever suit's your riding style...soft for cruising, a little firmer for a bit of scratching! Duncan posted a 94 lap at Goodwood...some going for a 500 one lunger! on the LANSDOWNE Danper kit!!! :D

Actually it is against ebay's policys to copy photos or text from other adds. I used to sell used video equipment through an ebay store and had lots of this going on. Ebay cancelled those ads quickly as soon as I reported them. There should be a link on the page saying "report this item"

Some photo host sites let you select "disable right-click" or some such feature, so that folks can't easily copy pix.

You can still hit "Print Screen" and crop out the photo using any photo editor, but the resolution goes to pot.

On a mac you can just drag it to the desktop. With flash you have to do a screen shot which you can select the area so thr res says pretty good compared to the original.

The USA has very strong copyright laws pertaining to photography which ebay honors. They ask you to show your original when you complain and then they pull the other guys ad. I've had my entire ad copied with text etc. I even had a spiegle about letting folks use my photos IF THEY ASKED but no one ever asked. Since I often sold quantities of the same item I didn't like people using my images until I had none of the item left myself.
