I have acquired a new late model blower. I have no experience with the Drouin. Has anyone got the original injector to work or do I go Carby. I want to build a stupidy fast commando before I am too old to ride it. I have several commando motors including shortstrokes, but I am thinking a std 850 to start with.

The Lake Injector is self compensating air density fluid computer fuel metering, not venturi vacuum carb so almost everyone got them to work on Drouins but many had the slide stick open, at least one with deadly results off Mt sharp turn. The needle can generally be set for nice idle low end operation or nice hi rpm hi fueling but not both at once. There is a Very Tedious Procedure to modify the needle to work well across whole range of operation but too involved to detail before a big mug of am coffee. The slide needs a push-pull throttle adapted to be 'safe' and should still allow 40 mm of cable motion which is an issue to find or make as most only work up to 38 mm range. The few who persisted with Drouin after sensing the slide sticking issues put on various type carbs via face plate with manifold tube adapter. Bruce McGreger has succeeded in adapting a carb to his stock 850, after not being happy with a SU type vacuum operated throttle type and too pensive to leave garage after sensing Lake hanging on just low power start up testing. Ms Peel has carb space issues so I must make the Lake injector work for the fastest thing going around before I die off. If you decide to be rid of the Lake Injector, then Peel could use the spare.

Note the modern flat slide carb adapted to this one.

Hi, That is my bike on the vidio!

Every time I go to post a reply on this site, I have to get a new Password?

Dont even waste your time trying to make the Drouin built in injector to work or a Hardly Davidson CV.

The best set up so far is a Lectron Powerjet carb from Fast by Gast Racing in New York
about $300 + $20 for the optional red carb ring

40mm A/PJ with choke , Get Needle 5-1 @set the needle height @2.990 inch.

If you PM me with an address, then I will mail you a drawing of the addaptor plate needed to mount the carb.
Dyno Dave has most of my modifications dwgs posted on his Alantic Green site.
PS, I turned 68 last week and do not see putting my Drouin back on my Norton.
So it will be for sale $2800 complete & ready to install.

& if you`re checking out Fast by Gast, ....warning...dont get side-tracked with his wickedly powerful H2s...

Yeah, well, I was looking at Lectrons &... got.... side... tracked, ,so now I`m wonderin` how X 3 KTM 300 top-ends would go on an H2?

I dont think there is an h2 site, so the poor fellow is orphaned and we must take care of him here. We must nuture him into the beautiful, classical world of Nortons and raise him as though he was our own. Someday he will thank us!

Ping Bruce for his insights on Lectron solution.

Older-earlier style dual belt Drouin.

Peel will have water injection for ~116 octane and combustion chamber intercooling but that only goes so far in power production and can erode impeller blades sprayed on them so will also add another tank of methanol at center of impeller to both spike its pumping efficiency and increase charge density and add some extra fuel to burn with the water tanks spiked with H2O2, po boys NOS - that don't have to wait till full tilt to kick in.

Hopefully Peel will be the only bike capable of taking the boost when leaned rather far over.

That looks to be the Brit Jam at Haddam Neck fair grounds, yes? I think my red Commando is there in the background.

the poor guy is eat up with chain saw motor itis  . even fast by gast has gotten away from the ding pop motors. he needs to face reality. he will also get no slack from me as this is a dedicated NORTON forum

Gooday J.A.W,

Are you on the correct site ?.

Its the dual belt drive model, about two model styles prior to the last version. Its very workable. Take good note of that impeller, someone took great care to trim its webbing back to decrease its spin and gryo inertia. Here's what it can look like on an 850. Its you cheapest ticket into OMG thrust back into infantile thrills.

More in here on MIke's old fashioned Drouin.

Here's how it affected it affected Mike.

Steve I just took the bike out for it's first run around the block. It runs great! I have to wait for colder plugs or I would have never come home. It takes a bit getting use to working the fuel shut off but I am getting the hang of it. Other than a little bit of fuel spill now and then it is a great mod. The sound of the blower can be heard inside my fullface Shoie helmet and over the boom of the Dunstall silencers. I still have to do some polishing and replace one of my original leaking petcocks but this thing is awesome. I have always wanted an 850 Commando and I never would have even imagined I could have a supercharged one. I will send photos when it is completed to my satisfaction but let me tell you this. I ride a nitrous injected Honda 996 Superhawk as a daily ride and I have a few GP race bikes but nothing, I repeat NOTHING!! stirs my soul like this setup. The only other mod will be a steering damper because the bike lifts up in every gear now and it upsets the steering and a gunfighter seat from Corbin to keep me from sliding off the back of the bike when I twist the throttle. I don't really care if it is -30 deg I'm riding this baby. All I can say is
YEEEEEEEEEHHHHAAAWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!

Hey windy ol` bill, did you even check out the Fast by Gast site? Its there man,you can buy a hot H2, just open the other eye & undo the blinkers, or did you put a DEDICATED deposit down on a NEW 961..L.O.L.

Funnily enough, I happened across a Drouin mention [letter to editor] in an old mag, [`77] that complained bitterly about the quality/tunability/after sales support , I could transcribe it - if it was of interest...

There were life 4 different versions of Drouins and Hogslayer TC was involved. Let see what it says and which blower model it applies too and which motorcycle. Honda CB 750, Sportsters, Triumphs were also supported for a while. But something mean seems to happened to Tom, TC got angry at my mention of Drouin '04. Its so straight forward to solve the Drouin issues that if not for this break down in Tom's design and bussiness progress, squadrons of supercharged Norton Commandos might still be the meanest street, strip and track demons around. Dang it that impeller cut down and hopefully balanced is one hi tech artistic risk taking endeavor to contemplate. I've got two of em, one merely balanced but the other may pick some turbo heads on that upgrade. Main trouble is the Lake injector for a number of reasons. Bruce solved that in spades with his Lectron kit.

sure did and he does offer ring ding work and parts but his race team is using--------- guess what---------four strokes  . to answer you other question I have NOT and WILL NOT put a deposit on a new Norton or go to lost wages to gamble my money.
