So he got a following. I was a middle manager in engineering industries for about 40 years. If somebody such as Abbott turned up at a job interview, they would not even get a look-in. Yet there he was - PM of Australia. People vote for politicians who present and aura of being positive, even when they are idiots. If you stand up and lead, people will follow you and your decisions are irrelevant. History will be made regardless of anything you might do - but in the end the collective will go where it will without your help.
