I think an Atlas forum might be too narrow. How about a Dominator forum? This would be wide enough to capture a number of models with overlapping and relevant content, and narrow enough to avoid so much unique content that it is unmanageable and irrelevant to many of the users. An Atlas forum would be an improvement on the "Other Nortons" category.

Jerry, There appears to me to be a following (addiction) for Norton Commando road race motorcycles that get lost in the Commando topics.
I would imagine there is quite an interest in restoring the cosmetics on every year Norton......so me personally would like to see a place where the period literature for a certain year is kept.....sales brochure, road test, tech specs , etc......not sure how you would keep inappropriate posting out of play, but just a thought

"Do we NEED a Atlas forum"? Need is a word seldom used in the literal sense, That said, I've pretty much lived by the theory that "to much of a good thing is never enough" so why not. The Atlas thread in "Other Nortons" seems to have been getting about ten posts a month for six months and the "Norton singles thread" about 1/2 that. I personaly realy want a Featherbed twin of some sort and have been meaning to buy a Norton single for 35 years. I like both of those threads and I supose if they had their own forums they might even bring in more posts. In the end its all up to you & L.A.B. to manage so just don't let it cut into what little time you have to ride that beauty of a MKIII of yours. Glenn T. S.

Ok,

I think that specials should be under the specials of the same model. Example 'special tuned commando' goes under 'Norton Commando forum'. Special "P11" goes in 'P11 forum' etc. Otherwise that will get out of control.

Its quite simple to me. If there is interest in another model like Dominator I will create a poll that will run for 20 days like the Atlas one. Lets vote. You get one vote each and you can change it. If there is demand I will create a forum for the model. Let me know in this thread if there is interest for any other model.

Cheers

It seems like if there was a specific sub-forum for each bike (Dominator, Atlas, P11) there would be a lot of sub-forums with only a few threads in each. Maybe if it were broken up into engine categories with their respective models you could capture more information instead of it being sprinkled everywhere. Example (Disclaimer: forgive the nomenclature or dates, just for illustration purposes):

Commando 961
(2011-Present)

Commando 850
(1973-1975 Roadster, Interstate, Mk III)

Commando 750
(1968-1973 Fastback, Roadster, S, SS)

Heavy Twins
(1949-1967 Dominator, Atlas, P11)

Light Twins
(Electra, Jubilee, Navigator)

Singles
(ES2, Manx 350, 500)

All Things British
(Vincent, BSA, Triumph)

This seems a sensible choice to me.

I think things are fine as they are. There's no obligation to read every thread and it's up to the original poster to ensure the subject title includes the model if applicable.

There may come a time when a sub forum for race related topics is needed but I don't think that time has arrived yet.

The problem here is that there would be an overlap if you have an separate Atlas and P11 forum as both seem to have been fitted with the same engine & gearbox but have been put in completely different chassis. Just my opinion.

Riding a Norton is the same, no matter what race you are.

Yup, makes sense to me.

I'll vote for Kernel65's proposal. It makes best sense.

Question: How many Atlas's were produced; how many P11's? Why a P11 forum, and no Atlas forum? I guess that is two questions, but Kernal65's proposal makes both moot.

I agree, but would not like to see the 750 and 850s separated as good ideas apply to both early and late bikes.

As I said in the 'do we need a separate Dominator forum' post, I think a featherbed forum would be good.

The problem with singling the individual models out so much is that there will be less discussion, banter and community feel!

I agree that a Dominator forum would be better than an Atlas specific forum as there are several models that would fall under that umbrella.

A SLIMLINE forum might be more sensablerised .
Of course we'd need a WIDELINE forum then .

Might pay to mention the word ' TWIN ' somewhere too .

then a INTER ( National ) one would cover INTER's ( Internationals )

Do we need a Norton Atlas Forum??

saves a thousand words .D.R. stories might be worth while too , before theyre all gone .
The 16hs were a bit heavy for the desert , 16H Vs Me 109 could be messy .
Seeing Freddie Firth or whoever was a instructor , the capeabilities were significant .
