As Voodooo and Nigel have already stated , the Manx is a looker for sure , and more so with the short course tank . I still prefer the featherbed Inter , more so with the early chrome tank and pear silencer . But since we have had Triumphs and Yamahas enter this fray I might offer up one of the most amazing bikes ever built .
( Don’t ask me why - I’ll preach for days )
It is VERY easy on the eyes as well …

Would look better with Hailwood aboard.

Generally the appearance mate 🤣!

Exactly. That’s what I meant, and I wasn’t being facetious.

Some people look and see the engineering, or the pedigree, or the ability of the bike to do what they want, etc.

Some people just see the appearance.

Your all biased! Italian bikes, Ducati and MV Agusta, form and styling! Way ahead of British!!! (how's that for stirring the pot)
You may be on to something Gene …

but just because these pictures were in my motorcycle spank bank doesn’t mean I like them better … or does it ?

Very interesting from the viewpoint of melding new with old Italo-tech.
Love the disastrously low deep sump on the motors.
Great for the track, heart breaking on the road.

That’s a great bike, and, I get it. I just don’t get it for me.

I’ve had a t100 Bonneville, a t120 Bonneville, a t120 Thruxton, and another t120 Bonneville. They’re good at what they do, and I’ll probably own another one. But, for me, that’s just what they are. I don’t really end up attached to them.

I disagree with BT that’s its a shortsighted statement - it’s not like I haven’t done the work and am just throwing a random opinion.
i promise you this Triumph rides/sounds/feels NOTHING like a modern bike... and yet in 19 years all that's gone wrong is a frayed clutch cable... (hope i'm not temptin fate...) Best of both worlds...

There were not enough 961's made for them to ever reach their potential. If , lots could have been made and sold in the hands of tuners and racers we would have a much different situation today .
I remember when I bought my Commando, SBN (Matt Capri) had a big bore kit he was working on and I believe cams.

Not bad for a Honda 😃

After 45 years of biking, and currently owning a Norton I‘m pretty certain that in this instance, I see the same as you do FE🤣! If I were given the choice between the 961 Dommie and a well fettled Manx I would take the (forever iconic, historically significant, beautifully engineered racing legend that is the) Manx Norton - every time - obviously - as would ever biker on this forum I suspect.

So no mate - not really a matter of ‘just seeing the appearance’ but more ‘just answering the question’. I think the Manx is beautiful, as I agreed above, but is it the ‘best looking Norton of all?’ Not in my opinion.

The 961 Dommie was the premium 961. Not remotely practical, high performing or any better engineered than my cafe racer really, but considerably more purposefully, forward leaning and aggressively styled. A no compromise cafe racer built to shout ‘F#@K YOU!’ to every over-styled plastic fantastic modern appliance on the road. And I love that about the Dommie.

So, ‘best looking Norton of all’? Norton Dominator 961 in my opinion.

Optimus.

PS. Glad that we were only discussing the looks of the Dommie FE and not the reliability😄!! Got to feel for this guy - fm FB.
