Commando prices...

“Yes, the planet got destroyed. But for a beautiful moment
in time we created a lot of value for shareholders.”
Don't even get me started on the stock market, the majority of which is absolutely nothing more than ethereal ones and zeros flying through WiFi space...

No worries FanFan !! .... I do enjoy your posts , sadly I just do not have any French vocabulary ..... onwards and upwards ! ..... Also, I would vote for Peter E. as most entertaining and enjoyable Moto journalist out there .... maybe another thread topic ....

well...….i don't have any kids (that I know of) I have done everything I have wanted to in this life except fly in a P51 Mustang and see the Great Pyramid (mustang next year if I live pyramid prolly never) so as I have stated I told my wife to sell all my toys when i keel the next generation is on its own and good frigging luck i am glad i wont be around in 50 years to see state of nation/world if it still exists or if de Lawd hasn't turned planet into a cinder sometimes i wonder what the Old Boy is waiting on

I've often said, "I'm glad I'm going and not coming".

Teslas hit 60 in less than 2. In my neighborhood, seems there are more Teslas than not.

These are old bikes. They are fun to ride and are challenging to tinker with and keep running well. Thinking they are anything more than that is deluded.

Motorbike sales are at an all time low, due to (what I like to think, anyway) the obsession with safety, or the perception thereof.

Add to that, many Norton owners have for years (decades?) artificially inflated the market by hoarding. Suddenly, some of the older guard are trying to cash in on their "investments", but the potential vintage market ("the kids today") has been alienated by the high prices, and has moved on to Hondas, Suzukis, and Yamahas, just as they did (for the same reasons) in the 70s. The rebuilt Cb750s are easier to unload at higher prices than any Commando, yet the dream of selling that fake proddy for $20k still exists.

I tried to buy a Norton owners club shirt from my local club, only to be told they hadn't printed any in my size in 20 years. I wear a medium or large...

Don't know what it's like where you live, but the schools around here are funded by property taxes. The older guard have cut taxes and therefore have cut funding to schools' shop classes, art classes, music curriculum, and anything more than the bare minimum, because they don't want to pay for the education of someone else's kid. Suddenly no one's kid has any of those skills, but it sure sounds nice to bemoan the ignorance and self-centricism of "the kids today".

As the kids say, "just sayin'".

Tessla costs £80,000 in the UK that is nearly three years average earnings so never likely to see too many on crowded UK roads .. And frankly, unless they have a levitation facility , the sheer volume of traffic , especially in cities will make them no quicker on an urban cycle than a Commando.
It may be different in the US, perhaps you still have congestion free roads..

I don't buy into the voodoo sociology of the Millenials vs Boomers its a smokescreen for the failings of late capitalism.

If prices for Commandos are falling in the US , possibly more than in the UK ,then I suspect it reflects a greater economic uncertainty both here and elsewhere.

Went out yesterday in the heat and as usual the Commando turned a lot of heads and was fun to ride. The ZZR I have is infinitely more sophisticated but in comparison -dead boring to actually ride.. You could probably leave it unlocked and no one would bother to nick it

I suggest we all take a good look in the mirror,
and no, we do NOT look younger than our actual age.
Motorcycles are an old men's hobby.
The average age of touring bike riders is over 50 and climbing.
(add 10-20 years for classic bikers..)
Younger people are not interested, bar the odd exception and commuters.
Maybe there will be a market for Commandos in 10 years from now, but I wouldn't count on it.
Time is against us.
Let us enjoy it while we still can..

That's why mine is on the road daily even if only for a few miles...I'd be the same way with a fresh young woman...Ride daily if only for short rides. The Commando is best because you get to put it away when you're done and not deal with it again until ready to ride.

Exactly. As a GenX'er, I have a laugh sometimes watching the shots go over my head between boomers and millenials, and just think "You're angry at the wrong people. It's not young vs old, it's us vs bankers/CEOs/billionaires/general assholes." Being neutral, perhaps us X'ers need to sit ya'll down for some mediation.

Just so happens most of those "bankers/CEO's/billionaires/general assholes" are all of a "certain age"...

My cousin is Gen X, he thinks all this garbage is hilarious. I don't blame boomers but man your generation produced some really, really awful people.

I will always maintain it was the front end, not the back end. :D

I know you guys have taken note of these asinine labels that have been put on everyone...Kind of shows the basic ignorance of mankind right there. I only hope you younger folks do a better job of it than we did. We've been riding through waving the laurels & banners of our fathers & grandfathers doing much less than they for sure...I only have one sound bit to say providing you're drinking kool aide...Anyone who tells you they'll keep your interests in the forefront if elected to office is a liar with sexual desires for their mother & sister, perhaps father & brother also, neighborhood dogs, cats, snakes(if you hold the head), etc....You may solidly put your trust in your British motorcycle providing it is maintained.

You youngsters know the rest, but could be undecided on the latter spewing.

Sounds like a man with a voracious sexual appetite! He's got my vote galdangit!

And it just so happens that a certain race has murder rates 8 times greater than any other race... Care to make any generalizations or inuendo about that race?

The kind of shit you are insinuating is pseudo-science. You're trying to sound like there's proof of something, and you're insinuating that "a certain age" is a tell tale clue to the answer. Substitute race into that sort of thinking and you can see how offensive it is. We are all free individuals, making our choices.

It's like me saying a lot of junkies/criminals/rapists/shitheads live in brooklyn. It's just an offensive statement without a real meaning, only a nasty insinuation about the people of brooklyn. If you want to argue against capitalism and against modern economics, then give up your computer and your cell phone, and move to some rural area a live off the land. Then I'll respect your opinion because you're rejecting the modern world, and returning to the natural world to save the planet. So long as you're in the culture then you're just bitching about every bad result that occurs in a free society. There's a lot of dirty business and dirty dealing in politics and capitalism. Freedom allows for a lot of results, both good and very bad.

There's an old saying that I made up.. There's no graceful dismount from a high horse...

Start a thread on capitialism in the pub...

*Also, no one has made an offer on my commando yet... So, clearly commandos are not worth $10,000. all day, every day (at least mine isn't  )

Hey Frank!
I'm just breaking balls for a laugh. Sarcasm obviously not coming across through internet postings, go figure!
If I sound asinine it is because I am either drinking or making myself chuckle. The jig is up!

I'll gladly ream out your hemerroids in exchange for your Norton! No fancy doctors needed.

P.S. A lot of criminals, junkies and rapists do live in Brooklyn! I know more than a couple!

Closer to topic...I can't put a wishing price on something I've no intention of ever selling. To be truthful if I go back to work, which is a big 'if' I'll be looking about for another to give a loving home to. It needs to be an older Trumpet though because I've always had a hankering for a 650, and it could become permanent also. ..I'd not turn my nose up to another Commando either.

Back in about '95 when mine was stored some clown from up north called me in the middle of the night asking about mine. It hadn't gotten natty in storage at that time and he wanted to buy it....Made me an offer which shocked me. He'd gotten my info from an old Norton Owners booklet picked up in a flea market. Anyway to cut it short told him wasn't for sale and had a twenty minute argument on the phone until I hung up on him. I thought the man was deranged. So something has certainly changed in the market, or guys like him have gotten back on their meds because he was going to make a two day drive to pick it up...I'm glad to this day that I cut him off because I love that bike.
This is a truth BTW.

As weird as Craigslist can be, calling someone out of the back of a flea market booklet in the middle of the night is weirder.
