How much clutch drum wobble is allowable? I just took my clutch plates out for a cleaning and noticed the drum had what seemed like a lot of play in it.
What is allowable and how is it measured?

The other question is, If the bearing in the drum is bad and needs to be replaced, is it a standard bearing or is made just for Norton.
I have a bearing house in my town that seems to have everything. I'm wondering if it can be had there.

There's normally a little wobble but no slack or play at all. Looks like you've got a bearing gone.

Very recently discussed on this forum. The bearing is standard but needs to be 1 dot or C2 close fit.

I'll do a search. Not sure what you mean by 1 dot or C2

When you order the bearing you tell them the tolerance you want. You'll see it when you find the threads on the bearings.

Make sure the clutch hub nut has not backed off for whatever reason (over torque, squashed lockwasher, circlip).
Just get the bearing from an Andover Norton distributor, it is a '6007 tolerance c2' (single dot) if I recall correctly and I have not found one other than from Norton, they may be found in a catalog but are not available locally to me anyways. If you settle for a common as muck c3 it may be on the upper end of the allowable clearance and you won't be happy. Go with the Norton bearing.
All the best.

yep (on the lockwasher)....my clutch had too much wobble and it turned out the nut was slack because the too soft locking tab washer had compressed and allowed the nut to slacken even though the tabs still kept it from rotating, a common problem from what I've read here and also read that the fix is a belleville washer
