Thanks guys, I was really worried how people would think about what I have done to the bike. I was careful to not cut anything off or alter too much as I know someday someone else will own this bike and may want to go back to stock. I have used Sun rims that were laced by Buchanans and also have a frame loop reinforcement added. But for the most part it could be stripped and returned to it's original form. There was a time when people over here would cut frames and chop them and people didn't give it much thought, But now these machines are becoming a true classic and changing them to that degree would rub some wrong. So thanks, I always wanted to build my own bike and I have finally reached a time when my boys are raised and on their own, I have a few extra bucks and have a wife that for some strange reason likes to see me happy and in the garage. Maybe it's better than the pub, LOL. Ride safe, Chuck.

I think it looks great, how did you apply it? I used black paint on some of my parts and what I did was to put them in the oven at 200F for about an hour, spray them hot and then bake them another hour (my friend's mechanic told me to do it that way) Of course, do this while your wife is out, my wife freaks out when I do that even if I cook more often than she does, she just can't picture an oven used for motorcycle parts :)

PS Don't forget to give some flowers to your wife, she looks like a keeper :) :) :)

You can occasionally find free or extremely cheap ovens on Craigslist. Get a thermometer to verify the temperatures. Stick it in the garage and it will end up being cheaper that flowers and you can use it anytime you want. Stick a pizza between powdercoating... ok, maybe not that last part.

I'm a cheapskate for one and I don't have room in my small garage for an oven

The can didn't mention heating but that may be better, I will have to ask my brother if that's what he did. When I did my very unsophisticated test it seemed to have very good durability, I guess only time will tell. But one thing that will make it nice if it's scratched it will be very easy to touch up. This bike will have very little to polish unlike my 75 which is kinda hard to keep nice as I am close to the beach. Most of our rides (Me and the wife) are along the coast and the salt air seems to oxidize the polished bits very quickly.

It sure looks like you are close to having a runner. I think you'll have a lot of un with it, I expect it to get as much attention as my Chang.

Hey, Chuck, are you sleeping?

The good riding weather is here, man! Where's the "real" Combat Commando?

Funny you ask Paul, Tomorrow I am taking it to the DMV to get it registered, I am now finished with all the wiring and plumbing and could start it but the engine builder (Dean at TT Cycle GREAT English Mechanic) wants me to bring it to him for the first start up. Which is fine with me as he is a very detailed in his work and I know he wants to check it out before running. I will try to get photos of it in the next day or two, I think I am going to have a tough time figuring out what to use on the tank but I do have a tank for now that is a satin black that I will put on it for the time being. Your bike is looking good, I sent my primary to Kenny to have him drill it really nice guy. He has told me he is coming out with a new line of gaskets for the Norton's that sound really interesting and unique. You know Kenny he never does anything that's not cutting edge. You going to go to the Colorado Rally? I would like to see your bike. Take care, Chuck.

Well guys just wanted to give an update, The bike is still in progress and should be ready to fire up in the next couple of weeks. It is now fairly close to putting it all together for the final time, I took most of the do dads off when I took it over to the welder to finish up the exhaust. After that the pipes are coming off and going out to be ceramic coated. July and the Colorado Rally are right around the corner and the 75 needs a little love before that time too. Thanks for all the help you guys have given me, Take care, Chuck.

Great project, Chuck. It's funny how tube frame Buells and Nortons go together, isn't it. Wouldn't trade my '99 X1 for anything.

WHAT A TEASE!

For goodness sake, show a full side-on picture!!!!!!!

That bike is looking fantastic.

As soon as I get the pipes back from having them ceramic coated I will take more pictures, Fullauto I think it has something to do with the torque. I know it took me quite some time to cure myself of just rolling into wheelies on the Buell, Something about a low geared 1200cc 90 some H.P. light bike that makes you smile. The Norton is also a true down low grunt bike, A whole lotta fun to ride and it has the class everyone loves. Almost too much attention for some of the guys I ride with.

I know what you mean. I've got a 72 Combat that's in pretty fair shape. Some where north of $12,000 invested. I live fifty miles from Daytona Beach so I usually go to Daytona 200. When I park at Daytona Speedway, during Bike Week, the bike gets attention, big time. I almost, but not quite, feel sorry for those $50,000+ chopper owners. Ain't no one paying any attention to them.

I too love those pipes, but those exhaust nuts, are they anodised that color or are they made from brass?

Foxy

Lookin great Chuck. Is that a Sporty front fender? What is the black finish on the cylinders?
Rich

The fender is sold by Colorado Norton Works and I am not sure what paint Dean used on the cylinders, May be VHT or some other high heat paint. When I see him I will ask what he uses on them.
