But are you sure you want the military look?

Hey bigstu, you need to go to the 1st page and read this whole thread, the military theme is explained in the beginning.

The bike is looking great and will make any Norton enthusiast proud!

This may have been answered but I wonder if the military ever actually had any Commandos? They certainly had earlier versions up to and including the hybrids.

Yes, it would be interesting to hear about commandos in the military. We know they were police bikes but it would be cool to see some photos of military commandos.

My father told me he rode Nortons during WW II in the Canadian Military.

I wanted to say this thing is still being worked on just not as fast as I would like, Frank here it is, I hope WRENCH DON'T SEE IT!!!!! I will post more pictures of the progress this weekend. I have done a few more things I just have to get it out of the house and into the garage. Please don't be too hard on her! Her feelings are hurt very easy. LOL LOL

Chuck your bike is simply unbelievable, i like the idea to remake her military looking style its great.
I would like to make a special post on your bike to put on our blog when she will be finished.
You're doing such a great job and the quality of the work is awesome
Best
Frank

Well time to add a few more photos and give an update. Rebuilt front caliper with stainless pistons, bleed screw and plug. Played with an idea for the headlight with a stone guard, I think this may give it a little more rugged look. Not sure if I will use it or not. Also added the ignition switch with a bracket on the bar clamp, Now on to the electronic stuff. Hope to start putting more time into it now, No more excuses.

That bike is going to be so cool.

I can just see the letters "N O R T O N", in military style stencil font.

Finally removed the bike to the garage and the wife is talking to me again, Just thought I would post again as it has been some time now. I hope to get some pictures on tonight of the progress, Rearsets now on and all wiring complete. Also installed the ignition, Tri-spark and I was really easy to set. Hope to have her up and running by the middle of next month, Still have a few odds and ends to buy. I think this new format of the site is going to be very nice, I almost passed out though when I tried to access it this morning and was told this site no longer exists, LOL LOL Take care my friends and ride safe, Chuck.

If you post a pic with your tank (I don't care what it looks like now) I can get a closer approximation.

Thanks Dave but I really don't think I will use stencil type for the tank. I really like the look of the Norton logo, Maybe I could use it for small type that says Combat? Really nice now that it's in the garage because I don't have to go out and get tools now. Just a few pictures for those that might want to look.

Just let me know what you want to do and I can whip up the artwork. I think Combat on the side covers would be really cool. I wasn't sure about the tank graphics but I has to try it out.

Man, that is looking really great.

When I saw that photoshopped stencil, I thought it was a done deal! I agree that at least stenciled on the sidecover would be cool.

Boy I bet I may catch some flack for this, It's a high temp case paint sold by Harley. (Ducking low) It's called bead blast and is the most durable paint you can imagine. My brother told me about it and has it on an old Harley he has, Well I bought some and did some tests first on an old primary I had, Super stuff. Just prep right and the stuff is GREAT. I wanted this bike to be kinda flat looking and knew that just bead blasting won't last. This stuff has fooled a guy that does metal finishing for a living, On my brothers bike he wanted to know who did the work and asked how did the guy get it so even. Only time will tell but I know my brothers bike has lasted years now and his carb has leaked on it and after cleaning the varnish off the surface it looks new again. Don't be too hard on me, It could always be stripped and polished again if the next owner wanted. Take care and have a great day, Chuck.

I think that finish looks great, from the pictures I would have swore it was bead blasted.

I think the bead blast and the stainless fasteners look the business :!: 8)

That bead blast paint might be good for my air filter front plate. The gas has discolored and even bubbled up the paint on it in some areas. I use the Harley wrinkle finish black for restoring old radio receiver panels and it is wonderfully good stuff.

I enjoy going to the Harley dealer - a very different world of biking for sure.

Love the bike. Combat ready for combat.

Thanks guys, I was really worried how people would think about what I have done to the bike. I was careful to not cut anything off or alter too much as I know someday someone else will own this bike and may want to go back to stock. I have used Sun rims that were laced by Buchanans and also have a frame loop reinforcement added. But for the most part it could be stripped and returned to it's original form. There was a time when people over here would cut frames and chop them and people didn't give it much thought, But now these machines are becoming a true classic and changing them to that degree would rub some wrong. So thanks, I always wanted to build my own bike and I have finally reached a time when my boys are raised and on their own, I have a few extra bucks and have a wife that for some strange reason likes to see me happy and in the garage. Maybe it's better than the pub, LOL. Ride safe, Chuck.

I reckon anything that can go back to stock is fair game. After a couple of difficult restorations I'll go to a large amount of trouble to make a part bolt on whre years ago i'd just drill a hole or weld on a bracket. I also keep stock bits I took off for the next owner.
