As for Renold why do think I wont sell it. I like to sleep at night and believe me I do.

Andy

Excellent thread, really informative! Thanks.

To answer your question, I hope this answer is : "Because Renold DO NOT make Motorcycle Chain"

The Renold Blue Box chain and others produced since the UK factory closed down is Industrial Chain, it is not suitable for Motorcycle use as defined by ISO 10190.
Renold will not cover any warranty issues, for problems incurred on motorcycle applications.
ISO 10190 is the International standard that all motorcycle chain manufacturers must adhere to in 2013.
Renold do not make a chain to ISO 10190.

I only hope that all the dealers worldwide who do sell Renold Chain to the public, CAN sleep at night.

Renold has always been industrial, just it used to be a bloody good industrial product.

All the ISO and DIN numbers basically work on breaking loads not a working enviroment. As bikes rarely break chains,
see other posts, this is a bit of a red herring.

At the risk of upsetting folk, run what chain you want but on old brit machines the crank links that feature on many
bikes, both primary and rear and not just Nortons, are not available on "heavy duty" and O ring chains.

I will maintain until I die that a light chain made to good tolerances and most importantly, a good steel (iwis is chromised)
is the most important aspect of bike chain and for the last time for decades we never had "chain problems" perhaps
something has changed like the dumbing down to DIN, iwis is made to app 1/3 above DIN requirements.

Getting fed up of this now but it is nice to know that many Commando owners have now iwis chains, with or without
crank fitted. It would be nice to hear from some of the silent majority.

Hi, just received two rear IWIS chain and three cam chains from Andy, just to say he's a nice bloke to deal with......like some others on this forum! just forget to ask him if he could supply the Putoline wax, next time will do ........

I agree that chains rarely break, but this is not a red herring in the least. If the chain DID break I guarantee that Renold would run a mile. ISO International standards such as ISO 10190 have been implemented worldwide for a reason, not on a whim or as a red herring.

To quote the standard:-

"ISO 10190:2008 specifies the dimensions and mechanical properties of roller and bush chains (together with details of associated chain sprockets), in the range 6,35 mm to 19,05 mm pitch, for use in motorcycle applications. These chains are suitable for external drives (e.g. rear drives).

ISO 10190:2008 covers dimensions, tolerances, length measurement, preloading, minimum tensile strength and minimum dynamic strength"

For any company, business or individual to market, sell or advertise motorcycle chain when that chain has not been manufactured to ISO 10190 Standard....... well, I'm sure UK Trading Standards would be very interested to here about it.

No ISO 10190 = NO Warranty!

Our chain issues are not one of strength but of wear slack and then teeth wear which can accelerate chain wear and teeth thinning till chain bushes crack up and eventually break chin and surrounds if not caught in time.

Andy I fear Ms Peel will tear up Maney 40 mm belt so keeping primary case and Drouin case seals intake-configured for oil sealing in case must revert to the dual row primary chain. If sealed daul row primary chain can run w/o oil bath that would be very nice indeed.

I am outer here.

Just go to nay chain calculation programme and punch in any modern M/C the old Renold instant calculator
recommends at least 1" pitch....yes 1". I would be happy to sell this chain as it twice the price, but unfortunately
it would impossible to fit.

In the interest of safety I will no longer supply chains for the Norton Commando......FFC use some common sense.

Andy, don't let a couple freaks spoil it for the rest of us. I certainly have had my share of thin skinned moments.

I can't think of too many threads where some demented asshole hasn't made it his own personal vendetta and every thread has to be high jacked by a so-called free thinker to eventually answer his own stupid question to show how inventive/experienced/senile he is.

Dont panic guys, the majority of members are great but the forum naturally mirrors life.

There will always be know it alls and arseholes in life and as such they will be on forums.

The number of owners who have asked for information and the comments I have had show
me that I am welcome and a few nutters will not deprive you of my rapier wit and my knowledge
in chain.......well my rapier wit at least.

I will say it like it is and the pen pushers and PC band can kiss my rear. Engineering has never
been an exact science and motorcycles prove that point.

You dont scare me off that easy so allow my digs back.

Andy

Andy, welcome back, your chair is still warm. I may have tried it out while you were away.

Glen

thanks for that Andy, just read through the whole thread and learned a heap of info I didn't know before.

Andy,

It does seem as if you are your own worst enemy at times.
For goodness' sake man, CALM DOWN!

Reminds me of 'Beltdriveman' on another forum (or was it here?). As LAB says 'Keep calm' but do 'Carry On' ! Its entertaining and informative at the same time :)

I always called them "Pollsters" They ask EVERYONE, go with the most number of opinions, and to hell with science, logic.

If a poster either disturbs you or posts streams of verbal nonsense then add them to your ignore list in your control panel, their posts are removed from your sight ;)

Regarding some people who constantly ask for your advice and then do the opposite.....

maybe they have discovered that you are so often wrong that you are the best "fade" they could ask for!

not directed at anyone here, and welcome back Andy!
