Yes the day Renold stopped shoving MADE IN ENGLAND or simply U K on the side links Renold motor cycle chain was never the same again. I heard it was being made in France.........
Mind you haveing chomped up LOTS of Renold chain over the tears to put into stock in a friends shop ready for sale in every length known to man I will never forget the day I chomped up a length of Perry chain. When the rivits finally let go there was a loud 'crack' and I thought the chain breaker had broken! The difference in quality between the two was amazing ..even the side plates were radiused on both the inner and outer edges rather like, if my memory is correct, Renold race chain and i found a few lengths of that laying in the road on the walk back from Bishops Court to kirk Michael after a TT!.
In the early 50s the post TT ads stated Perry chain 1st 2nd 3rd with the Renold ones showing lower placings.... the works Norton team bikes used Perry chain.

Whats required to fit the big pin Duplex primary chain, I spent the wet weekend molesting my clutch, went to refit the primary and there appeared to be a broken 1/4'' spring washer in the coverer, wrong, was the ends of the chain links , split across the pin holes
Would rather try to fit a quality part than rubbish if at all possible, although owning series land rovers I'm used to fitting rubbish

Nothing is involved you just run the duplex on two teeth forms.

If your chain broke at the outer plate holes there was something wrong.

Take some pics and I will try to figure out what happened.

Looks like your in OZ, Contact Redax (Laverda guru) and ask about the duplex.

Not quite, next convict colony out, NZ.
Now the embarrassing part, most of you are 20 years older than me and have figured out how to post photos, I still don't even know how to get them off my camera yet, time my kid gave me a lesson.

It hasn't broken the outer plate but has popped the trailing end off a few links on the inside of the chain, there appears to be wear on the links were the teeth have been rubbing but the teeth don't appear polished up, it has a lot of crank end float and a loose clutch hub bearing, std clearance bearing was supplied, but for once the center was still tight, serrated Bellville and Loctite, I was working on the idea every thing would find its own alignment when spinning , maybe not

You didn't say how old the chain is, but my experience wrenching on Nortons leads me to believe that it could easily the original? If that is the case simply purchase a new one, which should live on for another 40+ years, and worry about something else.

The chain would be 10 years old , PO replaced it before I purchased bike, 12000 miles , and probably crap quality, and that's probably whats going to happen

10 years ago then it would probably be crap.

The original Renold was marked Renold UK or Renold England.

If it has an E in a circle............avoid
