I've been looking at the C-stand that came on the Titanic ('73 850 Roadster) and to my mind the step tang hangs too low and too far out when the stand is retracted. My ? is; Were low-pipe Interstates equipped with a different stand (tang) to accommodate the low-slung mufflers? If so, I believe I somehow ended up with one.

If anyone wants to swap, I'm game. Otherwise, the tang will be sawed off and rewelded at a more appropriate position and length.

There is a long thread here about center stands, from a week or 2 ago. Have a look for it.
What is it about yours that you don't like? Is it dragging in a corner?

If it is the original centerstand the mounting holes may be wallowed out, bolts loose or necked down, etc.

No it's just ugly and unbecoming on an upswept Roadster exhaust.

Everything has been drilled out with new stepped bushings made and new fasteners. The stand itself is fine, but the step-tang hangs out in the breeze. Normally the tang stands about 1/4" proud of the pipe. This thing is 1 1/2" away from the pipe all the way around the arc of the tang.
It looks as if it were intended for the flat interstate pipes.

I took the centre stand off at a early stage of its life, I didn't like it digging in the road when cranked over in a tight corners and lifting my rear wheel off the road, as well they wear out in the mounting holes and the spring lose its tension, I push my bikes to their limits and a C stand to me was more dangerous for me to have it on, I got by for over 40 years now without one.
Not sure if there is any different to the C stand on all the models.

There wasn't a different stand for the low pipe exhaust system models. The tang, as you call it, did get longer when they strengthened the stand around the time that the 850 was introduced. They had to strengthen them because the early engine mounted ones broke across the middle. I don't think the older version is available.

Danno, perhaps yours has been bent through abuse or deliberately modified in some way?
This is a pic of mine back in its centre stand wearing days. Good clearance for the upswept peashooters but nothing excessive.

That's what it SHOULD look like. Mine doesn't look like it was ever bent, pranged or otherwise modified. but it soon will be. I think rather than cut the tang underneath the pipe, I'll just heat it and bend it and possibly remove and re-weld the step end.

Having trouble pic-posting on this pos Chromebook. If my daughter the nurse would just get her old Mac fixed, I'm supposed to inherit it.

Just noticed; you can see the tang hanging out in this pic. Maybe I can heat it and bend it to a more aesthetically acceptable position.

That does appear to be excessive... has it been modified by someone?
Are or were there any aftermarket center stands for our bikes? That one doesn't look to be stock.

All I know is it came with the bike and has been cleaned, repainted and has new mounting hardware. I know it doesn't have the serrated step on the end like the SS clone's Mk III stand.

Sounds like a heat-and-bend is in it's future.

It is an original stand.
Don’t recall them hanging that low.
However, mine used to drag in corners, so maybe it did.
The serrated stand is a later version.

My old stand went the opposite way. The kink got too close to the mufflers as it wore out. It also broke a couple times in different places before I went to later stand.

Cell phone pic from 73 Brochure. Same stand on Roadster and Interstate.
Obviously, it sits higher.
1. Is there something prohibiting it from retracting?
2. Someone bent it to clear after market pipes that don't tuck as close as original.

Thanks for all the replies, chaps. I think heat-and-bend is the path I'll take.

The mounting holes were wallowed out, so I drilled them larger and had custom stepped bushings made. Might have raised the pivot center slightly, but the more I look at it, the more the tang looks bent downward. Stand work was done before I painted the black parts, so the ugly didn't show until the pipes went on.
