So I'm cleaning off some surface rust and grime on fasteners on the wire wheel. Wondering what do you guys use to keep them looking clean? Is there a coating or method you use to keep them clean?
Ones on the right are done and the ones on the left are beforehand. I have a ton more to do over the next few weeks.

Iv'e never used the kit Beach speaks of but sounds like a possible alternative to having them all replated. No matter what you will have to do something to replace the Cad, Zinc or chrome that has aged to let the base metal start to rust. By wire wheel cleaning you have taken not just the surface rust off but any plating that did still exist so now in a very short time what looks clean to you now will be totally engulfed in rust by the end of this winter. This is one reason that almost all of the bikes nuts, bolts and connection plates are available in stainless steel. It sounds pricey but unless your going for a show winning stock look stainless is worth it. I'm still Leary of it for high strength bolts but the kits from CNW for high strength head bolts look like they are safe even there. I wire wheeled & polished a bunch of car parts once & just rattle can sprayed them with real good clear & they looked great for years but that was a look I wanted for that car, kind of to ghetto cheap for the Norton. Good luck and Godspeed, remember as Mr Young sang (quoting someone else) "Rust never sleeps"

Plated or SS as stated or trying to keep ahead of rust by regularly keeping moist with some magic stuff which tends to evaporate off heated parts to show rust again. Some stuff like Strongarm can rub rust off to clean metal and protects with a shine that sheds water a long time but still have to reapply at some point. Never expose to road rain and always kept inside helps extend cheaping out.

North Penn Polishing and Plating -- http://www.npplating.com/ -- in Sellersville PA did nice work for me including hardware and brackets years ago. The web site looks commercially oriented but they are mostly bikers and understand about our old stuff. They do work for the antique car people too. I think there was a minimum lot charge or something and they told me to bring in more.

It is local to me but possibly they can do mail order. Sellersville is south of Quakertown - the big city. :D
