Atlas Sidestand Mount

I wondered if anyone has any pics or know where the Sidestand mount on an Atlas...I think it mounts on frame under the footer but there doesn't seen to be enough clearance between primary and frame..

yes you are right, there doesn't seen to be enough room there.

Norton supplied the prop stand as an optional extra and has long been unavailable.
I brought a sidestand and I had to file a large radius at the top of the inside of the 2 bolt clamp to get it to fit. Much to my dismay (and it was for universal fitment) the stand was too short.
I finally sold it to someone who could cut and weld cast iron so was able to make it longer.
 
I have a stock one just like that...Just not sure of placement and procedure for mounting..
 
This is the best pic I can give you. This is a factory setup. The clamp mounts per DynoDave's post, and the bolt on the clamp is just about in line with the front edge of the brake pad when viewing transversely across the bike. It is a tight fit.

That would be somewhat of a rarity ?

Even the el cheapo ones are fabbed up out of steel bits, and welded together...
 
Read the topic on the P11 thread titled 'Side Stands'

The stand for the P11 series was the same part as the Atlas, and fit the same way - wedged between the frame rail and engine plate between the inner primary and engine.

RGM and Norvil both sell complete assemblies, as do a few other suppliers.

Norton kept beefing up the side stand assembly, due to owners trying to kickstart the bike on the side stand, and the final version was numbered 06-7719 (I think)
 
Wouldn't there be a height difference between an Atlas and a P11 ?
They look different.
So the sidestands would need to be different lengths... ??

Nope. Same stand, same lugs.

Once again you have failed to read my post and comprehend what I was writing about :shock:
It clearly stated ;

(and it was for universal fitment)

Hence it was a no name brand, probably a far eastern copy :!: :(
 
All (?) the current offerings of sidestands are for universal fitment,
and I still haven't seen any cast iron ones.
Not that I can claim to have sighted them all...

You still don't seem to appreciate that ANY dodgy comments here need to be commented on,
for the benefit of other readers.
 
cast steel not cast iron, I have a Norvil one which obviously a copy of a genuine one as it still shows the part number cast in.
I bought this years ago with the intention of making a batch but havent and probably wont get around to it, to much on the plate.
but when its clamped to the lower frame tube the rear part of the clamp rests against the engine/tranny plate for support.

Thanks Don, cast steel ones would make more sense, no snapping them if resort to kickstarting them on the sidestand.
Wonder if you would get your $$$ back on castiron ones...
 
I'm in the process of rebuilding my Atlas transmission so I wanted to take the opportunity to install a genuine Atlas side stand I picked-up on eBay several years ago. I think I need to remove the primary case to fit the side stand bracket. Anyway I thought I'd post some pictures of the bracket to show how thin they are designed to clear the primary case. This one fits between the engine mounting plate and frame tube to keep it from rotating and requires minimal clamping force on the frame tube. I'm looking forward to having a working side stand.

I had to machine my after mark side stand to fit my Wideline frame and yes cast steel, poeple should learn to kick their Nortons without using any stands, I rode my 850 Featherbed for over 25 years without a stand at all (there will always be a fence, post or building to lean the bike on or your helmet).
