Atlas Side-Stand Lug

The outboard half of the side-stand lug on my 66 Atlas is broken. I see that one can buy the outer half from one of the vendors for about 25 pounds. Does anyone have experience with these? Is it strong or will it just break again. Perhaps I should have a gusset welded onto the one I've got.

Sorry, no experience, but I recommend you buy the replacement. It can hardly be wrong. A welded lug will never be as durable as a new one.

I just installed one on a P11 - they are a quality part - very stout and machined from billet. Way better than the 54 yo part I took off that had about 4 cracks in it.
 
Depending if you into original or not
I generally use Kawasaki zzr 1100 side stands bought cheaply from eBay
I buy them with the mounting bracket/springs/bolt
I cut the mounting plate to shape and weld it straight to the frame
The stands are very strong
They come with double springs

I had to look it up. Looks like a stool leg, a stout steel casting! Maybe a bit overkill for a Norton "heavy" twin (in effect, lighter than the Kawasaki). I think the AN prop stand gets my vote for a Dominator bike.

"Prop stand down" warning light is a nice feature!

I have one on my commando
It's possibly half the weight of a commando one
I don't know about a dominator one
 
Really, Baz? So it's an aluminum casting, not steel? And a hollow section? The picture I looked up made a different impression.
The Domi side stand is solid steel and heavier than the Commando prop stand.

No it's steel and substantial
But much shorter than a commando stand
I'd assume lighter? But I could be wrong
I have a commando side stand in my workshop and maybe a kwak one too
If I ever get the chance I'll weigh them both both to find out
