Ash is in hospital

I wish it was but no with the cam, head work and everything else, it has a bit of compression, to much for a hand job lol, bit of dirt talk now lol.
As I have always said I just wish this has never happened, but it has so I just want to get back to a near normal life as I can, but it's fu cking hard.

Ashley
Ashley you are the man I admire your determination. You are such a great person. Keep on keeping on brother

Ash - you should get one of those telekinetic helmet thingies - the ones with the electrodes on your brain!
Then you could give your Commando a head-job! 🤣 🤔

It's not so much a inspiration to me more I just want to get back to my normal life but I know in myself it will never be the same, but I need to get back as close as I can, but I tell you it's not easy and I do have my moments but at least I am not crying like a baby wanting to get home now.
Did I mention the Joe Hunt maggie, thought I better throw that one in lol.

Ash, I bought a barely rolling '69 Triumph and the guy threw in an empty Hunt magneto case that was undamaged (no story on how it became empty). I sent the case to Hunt, and they sent it back looking (and working) like NEW. I built the engine up bone stock apart from .060 over pistons & rebore, new valves, guides & springs, all new bearings, bushings & seals, rod journals turned .010 under. Monoblock carbs sent to Lund's for re-bore with oversize slides and jetted up a touch, with velocity stacks. Sureflex clutch with Barnett springs. Just nice. It would loft the front wheel with a fair bit of wrist.

Anyway, the best thing about it was, AS LONG AS YOU TICKLED THE CARBS, it would start on the first kick EVERY TIME. I used to bet $100 to everyone who was having a look at it, that it would start first kick, and it ALWAYS DID.

...until the one time it DIDN'T! (I forgot to tickle the carbs)

Anyway, it was a good friend who was really in a hard place, and he was pretty emotional when I handed him the $100 bill. Not long after that he got a good job and was back on his feet. We always get a good laugh out of that day...

Well another day at home been 6 days now and 4 days on my own, had a few friends drop by to see how I am going and the daughter and boof head took me down to my local hardware store, need to get a hand held shower for the bath room as my OT man was suppose to be getting it sorted but still no idea when as I can't stand up under a normal shower head as I got to sit on the bath seat to shower, so I took things in my own hands just got to fit it today simple job but harder with a missing leg but I got to do it and get it done, I am so use to doing things on my own so will see how I go.
Just about to cook up a big feed for brekkie been up since 7am and now 9:38, I been on the computer way too long chatting with friends that time has slipped away, well what else am I to do, have all day to do the shower head will take a whole 15 minutes of my time including opening the shed get a spanner and some thread tape, I paid good money for the hand held shower fittings as it can be used as a normal shower or hand held but I needed it, waiting for others to do their job and the OT man seems to be more talk than action, just got my wheelchair yesterday that I should have had over a week ago, they are only renting one for the time being paid for by the other party and its a fu ck second hand one and not in the best condition that I will be putting a complain on.

My OT man has a private phone number when he calls so I can't contact him but my wife is going to bale him up today when she sees him, they kept saying he does his job good but so far he has fu cked me around, but I have to go through him to get things done, he has told me he has to get quotes for anything but its ways too slow when I need the things done now, I knew he be a sticking point when I first met him and so far he has lied to my face 4 times now, "didn't say that" when he did, one of my pet hates is people who lie to me and even worst when it's to my face and when I tell him so he lies again.

There is only 3 people I completely trust, me, myself and I lol, but then I trust my mates I have known most of my life and the wife as well my fateful dog Millie, she don't lie lol.

Well not much else is happening with me so quiet being home alone but I do like my own time, might even have a beer later.

Ash

Well not much has been happening of the last 9 days since I been home my oldest daughter Virginia has come back Sunday night to spend a few days with me as this afternoon have a visit up to the hospital for a afternoon app at the Orthopaedic section to see how my stump has healed up after new years eve I lost my lower right leg/foot, its looking pretty good so should get the all clear, we are going to catch the bus up to the hospital in the wheel chair our local bus stop is just around the corner in it goes right to the bus station at the hospital a 40 minute trip on the bus and 50c for the trip, my daughter is my pusher and the buses are set up for wheelchair friendly.

On Thursday my first amputee rehab starts up at the same hospital but the amputee section pays for the maxi taxi's ride up there and home again, near $100 each way, but no cost to me, so hoping they will make the mould for my stump and start on the new training leg for me, takes about 2 weeks for the leg to get made, I am hanging out to get a start on my walking again training, I won't be allowed to take my training leg home till they know I can walk on my own without assistance, but once I do master walking by myself unadded I be allowed to take it home and will be the next step to get my full time leg made, they are saying the next 6 months all up but I am so keen I get it done in 4 months but then it's all new to me as I have never lost a leg before.

The last month at rehab hospital I been learning to use crutches and doing a lot of hip exercise as need to build up strength in my right side hip as it will be doing all the work with my new leg, it's a slow process and I am not going to push myself past my limits, just going to do as I am told by rehab physio trainers but I am determined to walk as soon as I can and try to get back to a normal life again.

Debra is still in rehab hospital but they are doing a home visit tomorrow to see how she is going to handle everything, she is so short normal crutches where to big and they had to order kids size crutches which only came yesterday, she got to wear a moon boot for another 10 weeks as her right leg is still recovering be near 3 months now since the accident on the 20th of December but her leg was in bad shape after the accident she took the full impact of the car hitting us but she walking before me with the aid of a walking frame, if things go well tomorrow with her home visit she might be home sooner than later, we both have a long way to go yet.

As I have said this year we have canceled and recovery for both of us and hopefully start a fresh next year, its been a big life time change for both of us at no fault of our own but things are looking up, just got to take it slowly and recover fully, it will never be the same for both of us and getting to a older age doesn't help I am 67 and Debra is 65 but we not going to give up, life goes on just on a different course to what we expected, I am finding it hard to adjust but I am getting there, life is not easy with a missing lower leg everything is out of balanced and my good leg is suffering as its taken the load of both legs and a old knee injury has come back as it was never fixed right after surgery back in 1985 40 years ago, but I was having some troubles with it before the accident.

Well its 8:40 in the morning and my daughter is still asleep I been up since sunrise at 12:50 we be catching the bus up to the hospital, first test run in a wheelchair so that is going to be interesting, the buses are set up for wheelchairs so we will see how go.

Ash,

Have you planned what your routine will be, and are you "training" for trekking out to your shop and killing a bit of time starting to re-organize THERE to be able to get around?

I'd have to guess your trainers aren't paid to help you in that stuff... or are they?

How "accessible" are the shop doors?

GP I am slowly getting back to a routine at home, as for my workshop/shed I have only ventured up there a few times to get things, haven't done any work up there just yet, I have sat in a chair under the open awning just looking around, the shed is pretty much tidy for a shed anyway, I love to get back into my train layout but think its a bit soon for that, but will soon once I settle in a bit more, I just want to take my time, get use to being back home and wait for a few mods/jobs get done in the house a tradesman is coming today to measure up the hand rails for the back steps and a few grab rails in the bathroom.

Well my first venture up the hospital yesterday afternoon on the bus, the driver gets out of his compartment with a steel hook rod and lifts a ramp up out of the front door and helps to wheel me in, quite good set up and they have 3 fold up seat near the front on both side for wheel chairs passengers, told the bus drive was my first time so he gave me special trip, the hospital, what a waste of my time, app was for 2:30 we didn't get into the medical room for over 1 hr where 5 other patients are waiting on the bed for the doctors to check you out, they sort of forgot us and we ended being the last patients there when I asked the nurse, have they forgotten us, she said no, then the doctor came took a look at my stump and said all good there, see you in 3 month's time, W T F and to make things worst I needed a pee badly and we were catching the peak hour bus home and our bus only comes every hour so we had 5 minute to get back to the bus station, no way we could make it but we got there 3 minute past the bus time, but lucky our bus was running late this was after 4pm and the bus got there at 4:20 and it was packed, the driver did his thing with the ramp and people moved out of my way and got into the WC area, worked pretty good.

Well today Debra comes here for a home visit with the OT man and physio person to see how she goes to a run up to coming home, as well a tradesman coming as well to check on what is needed in the house to help us out, so a busy day, we also want to steam clean/scrub the hardwood floors as they are so dirty looking a plain mop won't do it, but the floors should look good again after its been done, my wife in the last few years has not been real house proud with her house work and hoarding, was causing us a lot of problem with our marriage, but the accident has brought us back together but things has to change at home, got the house starting to look tidy again from a bit of hard work from myself, not easy doing house work in a wheelchair I can tell you, so while Virginia is here till tomorrow, today she is going to earn her money, tomorrow we have another trip up to the amputee rehab section in the morning, not sure how long we be up there but its a maxi taxi ride both ways, I hope.

Its sad when I go up into my shed and see my old Norton just sitting there, love to be able to kick my bike over and take it out for the day, at the moment I can only dream of doing that but I so badly need to get back on the Norton, in fact I am hanging out to be riding again, coming up to 50 years together my Norton is my life, it's been the happiest life together it never complains, never argue with me and never talks back and when the wife and I are arguing my Norton gets me away when I need that escape, my Norton has no name except for bike, I always pat it on the tank after every ride and I thank it for getting me home safe after a great ride together, some of my mates think I am mad but it works for me and its been a freak of a old bike that has only let me down with parts it didn't like lol or some of the stupid things I done to it in my younger days doing burnouts and all, my old Norton is showing her age but so am I we are both aging together and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Well that's about it for today's report lol.

Ash

Hopefully you have a mate that can start up the bike for you, to keep the juices flowing.

You really ought to consider a clip-on sidecar and get back in the wind.

Well had a great day today, had a free taxi ride up to the hospital for a 10:30 app at the amputee rehab this morning, the taxi came early at 9am and was early, at 10:30 the Phyos showed up and took me into the gym area where they had a chat with me to see how things were going, the girl who was looking after me showed me what was happening for the first rehab, she put a rubber air bag up over my stump and pulled it up as far as it would go took up my whole 3/4 leg, then she pumped it up so it fit tight on my leg, they had a steel cone leg with a u bat for a foot then all of a sudden I was standing up between the bars, fu ck I was standing on 2 legs but had to keep hold of the guide bars where I had to do hip exercise by leaning to my right and back while keep my back and shoulders straight without any weight on my arms.

Did this exercise for about 20 minutes but it just felt so good just standing on 2 legs although wasn't walking, because now the other 3rd party insurer has come on board I have a few options and tomorrow I got to contact the private company who will be building my good new leg seeing the other party has come on board to arrange to get my new leg made for me but still be doing my rehab at the hospital they will work with the hospital, so things might move a bit faster now.

I am now wearing a new compression stocking on my stump and leg have to wear his for 23hrs a day only taking it off for showering for the next 3 weeks and after that time they will make the mould for my stump that the new leg will fit over, back up there next week for more rehab, so things are now moving.

My last weekend of freedom as Debra be home on Monday, bugger was hoping for a bit more free time, knew I couldn't be that lucky lol.

Well my solicitor now has quotes for a brand new Toyota HiAce to put forward to the other 3rd party to see if they are willing to cough up the money, we can only try as in the long run they be paying compensation from the accident and the solicitor said driving again is all part of rehab as I never be able to drive the old Landy Defender no more, so finger crossed that I might get a new van upfront for me and Debra.

But the feeling of standing again was so good on the 20th it be 3 months since the accident, so closer to walking again, working the hip muscle is very important as the hip be doing most of the work with a Prosthetic leg.

All sounds good Ash
You already know this but eat decent and lay off anything processed if you can
You need all the help you can get for building muscle where you need it
Sorry to hear the Mrs will be back soon!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂👍

REhab can be so rewarding, the small steps they do will suddenly all add up to a giant leap forward. Play by their rules and thank them often helps. I tell all the old people I know or meet who had recent surgery. "Now,,,Your whole job is to , Not to fall and not to fail to stay safe while you rehab."

Baz good advice that I already do, I ear pretty healthy and have done so for over 20 years, I don't eat junk food or fast food, I eat a lot of my veggies raw, taste better or just slightly cooked, but I do like fresh ham and bacon mmmmm, I also like a beer or two or three but over the last few years I have cut back on the drink and only have a beer or two when I feel like it, not because I have to drink, I grow fresh fruit in my gardens and have a love of my dragon fruit when my plants are in season which is now, second time they have produced fruit since planting, I have 3 varieties growing together beside my shed.
I have powered through all the hip exercises they have thrown at me but since I been home I been a bit slack with my exercises but cleaning the house in a wheelchair I been doing some exercises just by cleaning and told the physio's that and they said all good, they are happy with my progress.
I am only joking about the wife coming home, but I do enjoy my own time when she is not around, being together for over 35 years now we sometimes need our own time together or our own space, she has put up with me for so long, I am not the easiest person to live with and have my own ways but then the same with Debra I put up a lot with her hoarding and silly ways she has, but her hoarding has to stop and we have talked about it since I been home as I need a clear space to get around the house in a wheelchair and she on her crutches, we live in a very small house.
It's 2:30 in the morning now I woke for a pee and drink of water but I having woken up going back to sleep will be hard as thinking about standing yesterday is going through my mind, once something is stuck in my mind its hard for me to sleep, but will catch up soon.

Ash, a friend of a friend was a hoarder. Had a house fire and became trapped inside. You seem to have your priorities and life pretty well sorted, takes a hard head to push through.
You're doing great, make the next 30 years better than the last.

At one time my basement was full of BSA A10 stuff and my wife accused me of being a hoarder. I told her a real hoarder just packs it away and never does anything with it. I was alwsys picking through it for a random bolt or Amal part, even sold some of it. One mans hoard is anothers parts bin!

I read once that: "it's not hoarding if your stuff is cool…"

The guy I bought my Norton from had motorcycle parts in every room of the house, when we went to look for the title. His very sizable garage was chock full of motorcycles. They were even bike engines on the kitchen counter.

I work as an attorney's assistant. One of the main things I do is work on probates. I have worked on at least three estates where the person died in a fire that might have been due to hoarding. Hoarding is dangerous and a type of addiction. I did another probate where the deceased packed three houses that could have easily been rented with junk - another hoarder.

Motorcycle parts are not junk, FYI, but there needs to be a clear path in and out of every room of the house
