Why do our politicians ignore our transportation systems? They talk about climate change and electric cars that our grid is not prepared for. Mass transportation for the masses that work in cities. Trains for cross country hauling. No they only see our gas stove as a threat to ourselves! They can live in mansions but they want us to live in two room apartments with one light and one TV.
 
Update on the train derailment that has spilt molten sulfur and asphalt into the Yellowstone River....
Billings, the largest city in Montana, has stopped drawing possibly contaminated water from the river.
Update:
"Special divers and cranes are arriving on scene to remove the train cars still in the river.
Fiberoptic cables damaged in the accident should be repaired tomorrow, restoring 911 services to surrounding communities.
Congressman Matt Rosendale is on the case.
Montana Rail Link has started their investigation into the accident.

The DOT (Pete) isn't so much concerned about prevention or the environment, but assigning financial liability. The railroad and
the structural engineering firm it has retained to inspect and certify bridges both have insurance which will pay for shown
damages in court. The insurance companies will fight tooth and nail to minimize their financial responsibility. Compromises will
be made and there will be no punitive damages. The engineering inspection last done was most likely a drive-by photograph
at low water flow along with a re-dated inspection report from several years ago. Hey! No one was killed; what's the big deal?
Trains will be re-routed and the DOT will award the railroad a hardship stipend to help rebuild the bridge.
 
There was a road bridge parallel to the train bridge that was removed in 2021 because it was in danger falling down. In 2022 the Yellowstone river experienced record level flooding that some are saying may have contributed to the recent collapse. Makes you wonder how hard it was looked at-

Its a shame that the much touted "Infrastructure bill" has less to do with actual infrastructure than it does with lining pockets.:mad:

Two trains derailed today in Texas.

1) BRYAN, TX: Union Pacific is beginning cleanup Monday afternoon of a derailment of 5 train cars in Bryan near Midtown Park.

2) LUBBOCK, TX: Train derailment reported at a railroad crossing near US 84 between Amherst and Sudan
