My rebuild is finally complete. Here are a few shots of the progression. Many . . . many more photos - this is just a small taste.

That looks outstanding! Very, very nice. The only thing that would make it better, IMO, would be a different taillight. I'm not a big fan of the '73 light for some reason.

Very nice looking bike you have there. It appears to be very well done. I really like how you kept the instrument area low profile, kinda like the drag bars also. It will definitely be a head turner. Get any riding in yet?

German cars and a British bike? If you need a home for that funny looking convertible VW, let me know.

The bike looks great. I noticed with interest the contrasting frame as I have been thinking about this myself.

Russ

PS-you must have put in some long days...one photo shows a cup of coffee on one bucket-table and a bottle of beer on the other!

Thanks for the comments guys. I think she came out pretty darn well. I love the contrasting frame & low profile front end.

100% agree with the tail light comment. I plan to go with the old britts one once they are complete. & yes, beer and coffee . . . . many long days.

The '59 356 is pretty stunning. My old man rebuilt that several years back.

Funny, that's exactly the light I was thinking of. That's more or less that I'm using on mine and I think it looks outstanding. That OldBritts light, combined with what you've already put together, will be GORGEOUS (not that your bike isn't already there)!

Its knock out striking and studied the silver pastel frame for my own inspiration.
Alas I'd not be able to travel far for a trophy on those drag bars. All that black patent leather look, don't trip over em in the dark ...

she actually rides a heck of a lot more upright than she looks. with the corbin it is a pretty natural position - but then again i have not logged hours in the saddle yet, so i'll likely eat my own words.

thanks again for the complements - makes the hours in a cold garage worth it :)

Nice job Davidpnorton . . . .

We all can blame the fugly '73 and later tail light on the US Dept of Transportation. 1974 is the 1st year that their dictats on the size and location of lights, reflectors, and turn signals took effect and the '73s were in early compliance.

California Motor Vehicle Code follows the date of DOT implementation with respect to turn signals and that date was January 1, 1974. Since my bike's head stock states a date of manufacture before that date, I long ago dispensed with its OEM turn signals and I carry a photocopy of the Code with my registration slip.

The same problem affllicts many sport bikes, which have those stupid cantilevered tail light and license plate hangers; a whole industry creates and sells illegal "tail tidies" and "fender elliminators"

Smashing looking machine Sir!

Does anyone have a photo of the Old Brits rear light? I have a MKIII with that fridge of a rear light on it. I also have a Corbin. I'd like to ditch the fridge light, but it also has the indicator mounts on it....

Believe the DOT laws said the rear light must be the thing sticking out the most at the rear. If this was the design brief, it works admirably- I closed the garage door on mine once....

I put a very similar-looking taillight (to the OldBritts piece) on my '73 850. Pics here:

DOT can suck it. I've never heard any regulation, at least around here, that the taillight has to be the furthest point on the bike, so I'm ignoring it. Also, I'm going to use very small signals which I can nearly hide out of the way. The only regulation I've heard is that they have to be there, that they have to work, and they must be visible to traffic when I use them..Nothing about how gaudy and ugly they have to be!

Thanks Jordan,

Like that black cylinder head. I was thinking of the Lucas 679 rear light. In Blighly it is often charmingly referred to as the 'tit' shaped rear light....

Don't know how you can fit that without drastic surgery to re mount the indicatiors....

Thanks! I think the paint scheme is pretty damn slick.

I do really like the 679 light. I almost ended up using the '70 model taillight but I ended up selling it. I think the (shorter) aluminum piece looks nicer. :)

You have produced a " thing of great beauty" ... Truely an inspiration to many of us.
Your many hours of toiling in the cold garage have certainly paid off. Looks amazing !! I want one !

Can't stop looking!
Great job, love the silver frame, too.
About the tail light, I remember when I bought my bike I liked the the new tail light because it looked so much more modern than the old fashioned rounded and tittied Triumph ones at the time. Still do like it.

Nice job, all the hard work shows.

I'm late to the party, but apparently just another voice in the crowd "VERY NICE"...
