'71 Side stand danger issue.

Hi all,
My question concerns the failure mode of the '71 side stand. Is it the circlip dislodging or the pivot post breaking, or both?

Every one I have seen has the post broken off. I have never used one and experienced the failure.

That was the first modification I did on my 750 when I first got it. The problem was that the only way to hold everything in place was a roll pin, and the weight of the bike could easily shear it off. My modification. I threw it over my left shoulder , never to be seen again.

It was the post missing on my 1971 FB.
