Hello all. First post and introduction. Please be gentle. Picked this up about a year and a half ago for 500 bucks... British bikes being almost non existent up here in Northern Ontario. Familiar story. A no spark project that ended up sitting in a shed. Last plated in 79, no title, head off, seized, and registered as a Kawasaki in the provincial records. It did however come with an original seat and two tanks. A fiberglass Hi rider style and an Atlas tank. Sold the 2 tanks on ebay and have been buying new parts ever since. This is a great site and I have picked up a few tips already. My intention is to get it polished up and roadworthy while keeping it as original as possible. I will probably be asking a lot of questions when I get to the electrical and gearbox. I have rebuilt a couple of old Honda singles and some 2 strokes but this is my first Brit bike. I am currently fitting the barrel, after pistons and main bearings and shells. It was already .10 over. Will post more pics shortly.

+1.......I started with a '69 basket case project many many years ago, then bought a '75 runner then another 75 basket case project that's pretty far gone.....but of course I see it as just needing a few things to set it right as a runner. :D

Welcome,
You have come to the right place for your questions and answers.
Northern Ontario? Be more specific.
Good luck

there used to be a dealership in azilda, last i heard was those folks sold off to someone local in the sudbury area, dunno what's going on there these days,

if you run across other stuff up there pls lemme know,

how you gonna register it? how'd the conrods feel? tight?

might wanna find out everything you can about the bottom before fitting the top,

there may be a big end or crank bearing scenarios,

I know a couple of guys in Sudbury with Commandos I can get in touch with. For the paperwork, I had to get a letter from a dealership (30.00!) stating that it was in fact a Norton. Also had to get an affidavit from city hall (free!) stating I have been unable to find the registration papers or previous owner, brought these and my bill of sale and my Visa card i got an ownership certificate. Only took 4 trips to the Ministry office :?

Thanks. Timmins, specifically.
Well your trees must be spectacular right about now. Fall colours.
If you need parts Walridge motors or British Cycle supply are two good Canadian suppliers.
CVMG is a good organization as well as Ontario Norton Owners. We have rides and rallies in Ontario.
Best of luck
Cheers,
Thomas

LOL
well...thats one way to remove a stuck barrel. I have my own method but if it didn't bend anything.
then great.

Looks like yours is a little more involved than mine was. 20 years sitting and an engine and trans rebuild later, I have mine back on the road after 3 years.
Its a joy when it all starts to work. Good on you for getting rid of that fiberglas tank. I am working on that.
My 71 is back on the road. Good luck to you. There are a bottomless well of parts. Many places to work with.
My local guy has NEVER had to order anything for me.

Con rods were tight. I replaced the bolts and bearing shells after a friend measured them, and installed new superblend bearings. My BBQ as bearing remover.[

Looks like you are off to a good start. You'll find all the help you need here. I would jump on a complete bike like that for 500. I paid 1200 for mine back in 2005 with a title and it looked worse than that one.

May I ask what was sticking the jugs to the cases ,cos lifting it up like that seems a bit on the agricultural side? And by the way I think your burgers are ready!

Hi. It was some kind of black glue like substance. Maybe Permatex. That my last resort. Heating it up and jarring the sides with a dead blow hammer was going nowhere and I did not want to break a fin. I wanted to be sure the bottom end was free and moving smoothly before sinking any more time into the project. Anyway. Whats wrong with farming? Its the second oldest profession!
