Lucas prince of darkness?!?!?!? Go back to basics, Make sure the advance plate is tight on cam ,points are new or clean, if badly pitted they will miss fire. I still like points, no matter what they'll get you home electronics burn out you're done Something simple if it was running before good luck

Sorry batrider just saw your reply. We were running the timing light off my 12V RV battery. I'll check the gaps on the points again. If I knew for sure this problem would be cured by an electronic ignition I think I'd spring for one but I don't know enough about coils, rectifier, condensers, stators to know if the problem is somewhere else?

And yes, a back to basics static check would be in order too.
