When one of my wings broke off, I made an aluminum bracket to mount right below the 2 wings after welding it back on. That's why I said earlier not to use those wings for weight bearing, just for stabilization of the tank.

The other thing when you re-wire, make sure all the grounds from frame to parts have a good electrical path by cleaning off the paint and using de-ox. Repaint later if necessary.

Poor welding indeed, first thing I noticed after the tank came came off. Fortunately does not seem to extend to the rest of the bike.
How do the cans tend to hold up over time? The horn is a Japanese add on with a little button on the bars, I will probably keep it on the bike for safety and because it's a neat period detail but look for a stronger mounting location.

Seems I'll be expecting a large expensive package from England sometime soon.

If you are going for the most original look you can, look for a 1975 Mk III steel tank rather than an EMGO or 1972-74 OEM tank. The Mk III has folded seams rather than the pinched seams of the earlier model. The fill cap opens from the opposite direction and they don't have the buttons for the rubber hold down, but they are nearly indistinguishable from the fiberglass tanks.

Totally agree with Ron, if you're lucky enough to find one...

There is one on eBay in rough shape for 600$ shipped. Same paint as the red white and blue in the rear of your photo Bogus. Hate to say thats a bit out of my price range currently!

That IS strong money!

Old bikes rusty fuel tanks - that's a lesson nobody needs to experience.
Too late for me . . .

Be patient. I picked one up a few weeks ago for less than $175. Needs paint, but no rust and I was planning on painting anyway. Found one a few months ago in really nice paint (but black) for less than $375.
