I found the fit between the spokes and the brake calipers to be less than 1/16". Carefull spacing!

yes, and a hd rear hub, I have different calipers than your blue bike, mine are not radial ones.

So I was staring at the bike trying out how to fit stuff, I came to a decision. I'm going to box in the swing arm and turn it into my oil tank, ala Buell. It's aluminum, so good heat transfer, light weight and low. should be pretty easy to do with the swingarms design. And when I'm done good for about 3 quarts. More if I can. I'll cover the space on the rh side with sheet, and build a box section below and forward.

Copy cat  That should look nice. Don't forget to post good quality pictures.

Imitation IS the sincerest form of flattery. I started to mock it up with aluminum tape. Should work well. I might add some finned aluminum heatsink on the side for extra cooling and looks.

I love the mental gyrations of Norton creativity. Now what ya going to do with all that frame volume going to waste just holding up your seat?

Well, I had to cancel my radiator install last night, which ruined working on my bike. I tried yesterday morning, but had to plow the driveway to get to the shop, I gave up. This morning both patio doors and the front door had 3 feet of snow drifted in front of them. I had 2 feet in the driveway and 4 feet at the end from the plow. I'm begining to think someone dosn't want me to work on the bike. I was doing some mock up, and I think a 20mm belt final drive should fit. here is a HI res picture, as requested.

I just sold my old primary parts, so a few more items to go and I will order my Acewell digital dash.

I just posted my gauges, pistons, rods, barrel and old crank for sale.

Yes, life is unpredictable, I was going to fiddle on Peel's mystery mis-alignment but wife found leak under kitchen sink rotting the particle board and started at it with claw hammer, till too tough to do then called me in to show me my next priority. Can't get out to hwy in car d/t ice-snow-sleek layer about foot deep, which is easy to drive, except in Ozarks it ain't exactly level or straight a 2 wd could make it.
PU 4wd truck goes anywhere but not yet tagged after sitting up for new engine install. Got most crap cleaned out but need tools in shed so putting off doing something useful like you hanging out on forum too.

Looking good so far!!! I like the idea of the oil in the SW... Does this not create a problem of shaking the oil too much and emulsionating (is this a word?) too much? How does a Norton oil pump reacts with not being fed by gravity? Can it sucks from under it?
All these special construction make me dream of building a real special Commando (mainly for the look of it!) and I would like to install my VFR (or a Hawck 650, cant remember!).... do you think it will be possible to have one shock normally installed, on the side of the bike, a la BMW R80/100 of the 80'? I am sure the Commando frame will have to be gussetted etc, but would not this be interesting?
Philippe

NO, i'm thinking of replacing the chain with a belt setup like harley and buell do. I have a 40mm primary belt drive allready.

I'm going to drop the crank in the cases one of these days, then i'll turn the bike around and get some pictures of the other side. I need to do some work to the swingarm first.

Thanks for the good picture, it will look great with all the big mods you have planned.

Ah, I saw the sprockets and assumed you maybe meant the primary.

Some more Hi rez pictures, one of the general engine layout, and one of my workroom mess.

Very satisfying to see, ... someone elses involved efforts. How have you mounted the alternator?
