After installing the new layshat roller bearing and shimming under the stub shaft installed to .005 play. I used .055 shims i was just wondering if the crank kickstarter needs to be machined down to fit the new position of the stub shaft. Will the pinch bolt align with the crank kickstarter shaft. Thanks Steve

I just did like my dozenth time of fitting kick lever to a '72 Combat with upgraded bearing and no gaskets. Best I can understand you inquiry, nothing you do inside gearbox should effect the fit of exterior kick lever on lay shaft splines. I saw wider my kicker clamp slot for better grip but still had to drive wedge in to open enough to remove fighting it on, once aligned easy tapped full on spline seating. Nipped up by through bolt with part of bolt head ground off flat to snug up under the kicker curve, nut on exposed opposite flat. Solid so far as any I've felt but ain't put a boot to her yet either but hand tests engages.

I guess i need to try the kick lever to see how it fits. It just seems like if you install shims under the stub shaft that would make it extend less out the cover. Thanks Steve

Some people find that if you relieve the through hole, the bolt tends to 'pinch' better because it doesn't bind while pinching. Personally I use a nylock and thick washer on the far end too. I think the bolt is a UNF, but I've been wrong plenty of times.
