Old Britts – Upgrading the 750 Frame Loop Support
Download the complete PDF version using the green download button at the top right of this page for an Old Britts technical article covering an upgrade to the rear frame loop support on Norton 750 Commando frames. Written by Fred Eaton, this guide explains how additional support brackets can be fitted to strengthen the rear frame loop area, using a design inspired by the later 850 frame but extended further along the frame tube.
The article explains that the 850 frame used an extended inner shock mount to help support the rear loop. Old Britts modified that idea by extending the bracket approximately 2.4 inches farther down the frame and shaping the end to a point, helping spread load along the frame tube rather than concentrating force in one area.
The procedure shows the support brackets, cleaning the paint from the inside bracket and frame tube, bolting the new bracket into position through the shock mount holes and welding it to the existing bracket and frame. This modification is described as a job normally carried out during a full frame-up restoration.
