Ash is in hospital

Hey Ash, there have been a lot of advancements in prosthesis technology in recent years. Have they discussed options with you yet?
Its all under control will be getting 2 legs a training leg to learn to walk again and a normal leg for everyday walking which will be the best on the market, made of titanium with heel and foot movement as well full knee movement and all, I even get to pick the colour and graphics design of my choice all paid for by the CTP insurer of the other party, just waiting for the quote to be approved by the insurance company and the mould be made for my stump and new training leg made, takes about 2 weeks to be made and once I can walk again without help my other leg will be made for everyday use, it all takes time, but I be back on 2 legs soon and walking again.
The mower man has been approved so my jungle is getting mowed tomorrow and he be doing the mowing every 2 weeks after that, till I get my leg and walking again and get back to normal of me doing my own yard work again.
Ash

My backyard jungle has been mowed and the whole yard is looking good again, no more tripping up while on our crutches, about fu cking time, was becoming a dangerous situation for both Debra and myself and they be doing the yard every 2 weeks now as coming up to winter the grass grows a bit slower, I be back doing it by next summer, should be walking on two legs by then.

Ash

Great news re: yard crew.

You'll be pleased to know that the e-starter kit is going out in today's post!

Is a backyard jungle hazardous? I got the impression that everything in Australia bites and a lot of the bitey things are poisonous. Long grass sounds like a great environment for spiders & snakes...

Yes we do have some of the deadliest creatures in Aus, but hey leave them alone and they will leave us alone unless you try to kill them or go swimming in croc infested waters or surf the waves early in the morning or late in the afternoon when its feeding time or in areas where their main meals live (seals), I been camping in the bush all my life and so far have only in counted a few poison snake that can kill you, as for spiders I love them and never try to get rid of them around my house, keeps the mozzies at bay, its very rare that people here get killed by any snake or spider bites, yes it happens but very rare, maybe I am saying too much as scaring idiotic tourists is the aussie way, but our biggest dangerous creature is the drop bear, ask any aussie, they will tell you.

scary critters by all accounts Ash…said to drop from trees onto unsuspecting people… they are described as large, vicious marsupials with sharp claws and teeth…

Put vegemite behind the ears will stop them attacking, drop bears don't like the smell of vegemite, why do you think all true aussies love their vegemite, keeps us safe while in the bush.

In Victoria about 40 years ago - the surgeons in the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne wanted to ban motorcycles on public roads, They had a special ward for motorcyclists. I visited my mate in there. He had a steel rod inside his leg, thanks to a lady who cut him off in traffic.

Gangsters are worse in other countries - English people in Australia object to being called 'Pommies' - however finding a convict ancestor is a badge of honour for any Australian.

Well finally some good news today got a phone call from the prosthetic makers today and the CTP insurance company has given approval for my new legs, tomorrow I have rehab up at the hospital and an appointment on Wednesday at 11am with the prosthetics maker to get a mould made for my leg and measured up for my training leg to be made, I have been so waiting for this to happen, the leg will take 2 weeks to make then the hard work begins, learning to walk again.
Today it's been 4 months since the accident, so a little more wait for the training leg, but its all go now, has cheered me up a bit, waiting for the approval to come through was having an effect on me but I can't wait to get into the training of walking again.

Well had the plaster cast made for my stump yesterday and the mould made today for my new leg and the parts gathering for my leg, be about 2 weeks to be made, can't wait so was a good day for me and closer to walking again, still a long way to go, just been over 4 months now since the accident.

Ashley

Well not much has been happening here at the moment, my new leg is getting made so be another week or 2, have rehab up at the hospital on Thursday this week, had a few package delivered one is a draftsman high chair stool on caster so I can work on my train layout and a lovely package from Jerry here, thanks Jerry, still waiting for the ES kits to arrive, going to get up into the shed/workshop today and start to have a bit of a clean up of the workbench, bit of a mess from my model making.

Got to get a mate up here to give me a hand to pull my lift table out from under the snooker table and move it into the workshop to prepare it for the Norton to be pushed up on it, I need help with that as well, I can get my wheelchair down the back steps and can sit in it up in the shed to do things, its only 3 steps down the back of the house.

I got to put the draftsman chair together and being on casters its be good for working on the train layout, I be sitting at the right height to be able to do things with the layout, doing things is hard but I am adapting to it and Debra is now starting to slowly walk again able to put more weight on her busted up leg she is getting physio help with her walking exercise at home, the CTP insurer is helping us out slowly but surely, they are buying me a new wheelchair, the one I am using is a hire one and to be honest not in the best condition, even with my new leg it will be sometime learning to walk again and for my stump to get use to walking with it, it be off more than it be on till the skin get use to the leg as pressure sore be the big worry at first so short wearing of 30 mins each time to start off with, but I won't be able to bring the new leg home till I can walk on my own without any aid or help, it be a learning curve for me as we go but I can't wait to get walking again and standing on 2 legs again.

Well that's about it for now.

Easy as riding a motorcycle!

Its like going back to being a baby when they start to walk, crawl then walk, well I done some crawling in my life time lol, when I turned 40 I said I am going to go backwards in age instead of going up in age, so last birthday I was 13 again lol but looks like I progress even earlier than that now got to learn to stand on my 2 legs and walk lol, at lease I am not wearing nappies, well not yet anyway lol, maybe when I am old and lost the plot I might be.
Some of the things I come out with, the girl who made my leg plaster cast last week said its all about training your brain, well I told her I only have 1/2 a brain now as I lost the other 1/2 when I lost my foot, told her my brains were in my big toes lol, she had a laugh but also said "you idiot" lol.
Joking and having a bit of fun in my situation has helped me get over the bad times and frustration that comes with this injury, while in rehab I seen a lot who have lost their leg and were so depressed about it, from day one of losing my leg I wasn't going to go down that road, I accepted my injury straight away and has help me to recover quicker and to get back on with life as soon as I can, not easy but I am keeping on top of things, I seen death door open but I slammed it shut, wasn't my time yet and Debra is the same but it's affecting her a bit harder with some of the pain she is going through, I just tell her "get over it as you still have 2 legs" but its not a easy road for her and I am limited in what I can do to help her, life goes on and think of the things a head of us.
But funny everyone that ask me about my lost leg "diabetes", "no a Rab4" lol.

Ashley

I hope she has friends like you, at least one. I'm sure your daughter is "thin on the ground" with her new job, I'm sure that's tough too...
