I am not in favour of mixing tyre brands, same brand front and rear
Not a madman, but not a parade dawdler either.I have no idea what I am missing but these guys that get over 5,000 miles on an Avon R/R tire just baffles me. I have used them exclusively on my bike for over many years and if I get 4,000 miles on the rear I would have a huge celebration!
Always correct pressure and not ridden like a madman.
Mike
I have used them on my Race bikes since 2015. I like them.We expect a shipment of 100x19 universal tires from Heidenau/Germany next week. Having ridden Heidenaus on road and track- though not yet on a Commando- I have no doubt they will work well. Though not widely known it may help as reference they manufacture tires for Metzeler as well as producing a wide range of tires under their own name and have been a manufacturer for decades.
We used Heidenaus as OE on our C652 Nortons.
4.10x18 and 4.25x18 K81s are available. I've no idea where they're made thoughI bought some TT100's earlier this year. Try Demon Tweeks.
Speaking to Ashley at AN apparently they were moving production to Japan. The 4.10 x19 is still made in France. The ones I received were however still stamped 'Made in France' being manufactured in 2026.
Ive only had my commando since September and not had it on the road. Didnt fancy running the 20 year old tyres so opted for some fresh rubber!
Edit: Only noticed the OP was referring to 18".
What are modern TT100s like ?4.10x18 and 4.25x18 K81s are available. I've no idea where they're made though
Grippy enough, but the open tread means they tramline more than a little, presumably due to the modern rubber compound. What are modern TT100s like ?
Back in the 70's & 80's they also tramlined quite a bit - I put it down to the "V" profile they had compared to others, which generally were much "rounder" in profile (Contis, Metzler's, Avon Roadrunners, etc)Grippy enough, but the open tread means they tramline more than a little, presumably due to the modern rubber compound.
Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that Heidenau 19's are manufactured as front tires, not universals. Do you have some literature from Heidenau that states they are universals? Thanks! We expect a shipment of 100x19 universal tires from Heidenau/Germany next week. Having ridden Heidenaus on road and track- though not yet on a Commando- I have no doubt they will work well. I am currently running TT100's. They are no fun on rain grooves (a common occurence on American roads) and really bad on metal grate bridges (one of which I have to cross on a regular basis)Grippy enough, but the open tread means they tramline more than a little, presumably due to the modern rubber compound.
I run TT100 18" rear and 19" front on my honda superdreams and I have never had an issue with them (but I am not really pushing the limits on a CB250N!).
I am yet to see what they are like on the commando.
Who knows !?We kept hearing Avon Road Riders would becoming available within a season or two.
Is this still what is being reported or are they never coming back on market?
