no Avon RR so what tyres ru using in the UK

I used Bridgestone tyres for years, they are better than any race tyres we had pre-1970. Some people are very tyre-dependent. If I ride, my brain is glued to the rear tyre contact patch. In the videos about motorcycle handling, it mentions that if you have a problem in a corner 'more lean', is the answer. That is OK if you have tons of grip, and are not on the limit. I do the exact opposite - I get the bike as vertical as possible and trail-brake to lose speed. When I judge that I am going slow enough to get grip, I accelerate to get the bike to self-steer in the correct direction. The rear suspension setting is important. If it is too stiff - when you accelerate , the bike will not turn in the correct direction. The back of the motorcycle needs to go down to steer the motorcycle. Commandos have lay-down suspension units which give more travel, the bike should self-steer quite well.

I have no idea what I am missing but these guys that get over 5,000 miles on an Avon R/R tire just baffles me. I have used them exclusively on my bike for over many years and if I get 4,000 miles on the rear I would have a huge celebration!
Always correct pressure and not ridden like a madman.
Mike
Not a madman, but not a parade dawdler either.
I've ridden with Mike, he rides it like it was intended.... on the stick!🏁

I have a new AM9 on the back wheel of my Commando. The centre groove is 7.5mm deep. The AM9 that it replaced was worn to its minimums in ~3000m.

I bought some TT100's earlier this year. Try Demon Tweeks.

Speaking to Ashley at AN apparently they were moving production to Japan. The 4.10 x19 is still made in France. The ones I received were however still stamped 'Made in France' being manufactured in 2026.

Ive only had my commando since September and not had it on the road. Didnt fancy running the 20 year old tyres so opted for some fresh rubber!

Edit: Only noticed the OP was referring to 18".

We expect a shipment of 100x19 universal tires from Heidenau/Germany next week. Having ridden Heidenaus on road and track- though not yet on a Commando- I have no doubt they will work well. Though not widely known it may help as reference they manufacture tires for Metzeler as well as producing a wide range of tires under their own name and have been a manufacturer for decades.
We used Heidenaus as OE on our C652 Nortons.

Bridgestone Battlax BT46 front and rear. Replaced rear 18 moths ago, 6k miles now showing some squaring off and about 1mm left on centre tread. Obviously turn-in sub optimal now so with a 2.5k mile trip coming up soon a replacement is in order. Front appears to have minimal wear after 8k, still has most of its original profile.

Definitely will replace like for like, no squeaky bum moments even in the wet and being a dedicated rear plenty of tread hence longevity.

I have used them on my Race bikes since 2015. I like them.

I was a bit puzzled that the latest set of race tyres I have bought for this season no longer have the yellow stripe!

I bought through the race supplier in France and he says he noticed too, but says they are the same spec. Certainly they are the same hardness according to the 'thumbnail test'

I don't have a durometer, i considered buying one but, since these are the only new tyres I have and I didn't test the previous ones, it wouldn't tell me much.

Some people use the road versions on the race track.

4.10x18 and 4.25x18 K81s are available. I've no idea where they're made though

Grippy enough, but the open tread means they tramline more than a little, presumably due to the modern rubber compound.
Back in the 70's & 80's they also tramlined quite a bit - I put it down to the "V" profile they had compared to others, which generally were much "rounder" in profile (Contis, Metzler's, Avon Roadrunners, etc)
I didn't fit them for that reason

Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that Heidenau 19's are manufactured as front tires, not universals. Do you have some literature from Heidenau that states they are universals? Thanks!

I run TT100 18" rear and 19" front on my honda superdreams and I have never had an issue with them (but I am not really pushing the limits on a CB250N!).

I am yet to see what they are like on the commando.

We kept hearing Avon Road Riders would becoming available within a season or two.
Is this still what is being reported or are they never coming back on market?

Who knows !?

If / when they do come back it will be to a much smaller market as a lot of their previously loyal punters will have gone elsewhere !
