This is one of those secret traps. I was ready to finish my rebuilt trans with a NOS k/s shaft. Thanks to this site I was made aware the shaft I tried to fit is for the pre-62 gearbox (N-type) and it won't fit the post-62 spring arrangement.
Thank you, LAB!
Note to everybody: There was a subtle change of the kickstart shaft. For N-/M-gearboxes, the part number is 04.0114 and for NA - / MA-gearboxes, the part number is 04.0477.
The other NOS k/s shaft I've got came in an AN bag labelled p/n 06-6169, which is the current code. I wonder if someone swapped the genuine part for a pattern part, although it looks exactly as pictured at the AN site. However,
the plunger bore was poorly finished causing the NOS plunger to jam (fixed with light grinding of the bore). Drilling for the NOS pawl pin needs serious reworking too - increasing the bore is a challenging task because of the steel hardness. Even a cobalt bore
doesn't affect this steel, which is hard as diamond. Bore is approx. 0.1mm (0.004") too small. I can envision grinding away for the next week .... Needless to say, I am not happy.
