I guess I should quit answering the phone when mt friend calls. I'm just about finished with his 56 Domi 88 and he said he found this G2cs on craigs list in New Mexico and was I interested. So, of course I said yes. It was stored in a dry shed for about 60 years and it might be an interesting to get it running. Pictures and story to follow when I get back from Colorado.

Well I got my latest mistake home. At first I was excited to see what I had.....until I wasn't. The rocker box and head were attached when I got it. Took the rocker box off and there were no valves, valve springs, keepers, nothing. Then I lifted the head and no piston. Did find a guy in Connecticut who had a complete head but no piston. There is a lot more that I will need before I start working on it. Pray for me cuz I'm crazy.

I don’t know much about the Matchless or AJS 250, except it shares fork and wheel parts with the Norton Jubilee 250 and also you have to keep the gearbox oil level high, because the shafts are kind of up in the top of the box.

I remember hearing that from the now long gone Norton, Matchless dealer.

CS and CSR models had Teledraulic 1-1/8" forks, i.e. the version fitted to the heavyweights prior to 1955. The same forks graced the last big thumper - the G85CS.

I own an AJS Model 8 which was the bigger 350 to the 250 AMC 'lightweights'. It may be an idea to get in touch with Russel Motors, Battersea, London, England. They used to have lots of spares for the lightweights. Also worth trying AMC Spares too!

I sent an inquiry to Classic AMC Spares but got no reply. Are they even still in business?
I had forgotten about Russel Motors.

Yep , they still sell parts , I bought a lot of G80 parts this year .
Wonder why I never got a reply? I checked Russell and they have many of the parts I need. But their online prices are from 2005 so I will send them the list of things I need in the hope that they have them.

Hey Nortonelectr@

Crazy people everywhere ah. I have a Norton Electra and about 12 months ago I bought a G2CSR ! Looks OK but very run down and yeah gearbox is pretty ordinary but it did run and ride ok when assembled . Gearbox is all over the bench atm. Anyway by your name on the avatar your not unfamiliar with lightweight AMC bikes.

Maybe you have to speak to them on the phone.
I called early today; they got my inquiry about the G2cs parts. Digging out parts for a G2 is time consuming and from what he says he is swamped so I got put on the back burner. Did speak to Lyndon Taylor and he thinks he might have a G2 gearbox, but he is getting ready for Davenport. So, I asked him to check when he can.

I am familiar with Electra's having had 3 over the years. Haven't had one in 30 years.
The thing about G2cs models is that they are stripped down models with no lights from the factory.
What I need to find are the engine and transmission sprockets and the spacer that goes behind the transmission sprocket just like on other AMC transmissions only smaller.

I cant help with the parts but I could measure the spacer up if you want make or have one made while mine is apart.

That would be kind of you. I have a machinist friend nearby and I'm sure he could make one for me. I spoke to Lyndon Taylor and he thinks he has a G2 gearbox with a sprocket. He will check after he gets back from Davenport.

No worries I will make a drawing and post . Also watch the main GB bearing has a weird size in the bore of the rollers or inner race OD which is normally 31.5 mm but this is 31.94 mm it also runs direct onto the output shaft so doesnt use the inner race . So not a standard NU205, I was lucky to find a NOS one .

That is good to know. I haven't opened up the gearbox yet, but I will give the bearings a long look.

Hey Nortonelectra as you can see I'm no draughtsman ,hope that helps . I'd make it out of something pretty hard and the bore will need some interference to the output shaft .
