Sanity Prevails at TVS

I guess the government funding may have to be repaid, or not, if they still intend to introduce the electric model(s) in future.

Interesting that some major manufacturers still seem to be moving forward including Honda - only available in China currently though I think - and more recently even Royal Enfield.

Seems to be a bit of a chicken and egg situation going on also. Very little interest as there are very few options available to the market - very few options available because there appers to be very little interest. Added to remaining development shortfalls of course.

I can understand Norton’s decision, but I think it’s a shame that we’re not going to see their electric offering until much later if it is developed - safe in the knowledge that ICE models will remain available for the foreseeable future. Especially if it contains some innovative technology that may get them ahead of the competition.

Another same ole same ole, no news to report article. And let’s be real, Norton isn’t building a factory in the USA.
Trumptard isn’t going to be president after this term and Norton isn’t even hardly making it by as it is in the UK.
The detail about the delaying of their E-bike is newsworthy I guess NDT.

They’re effectively still in the startup phase, placeholder bikes on the UK market, pending release of a number of new models to the open market. Not sure they’d expect to be making it by at this stage of their business development - suspect they’ll be ‘in the red’ for a significant period yet.

Let’s hope that whatever is lined up for release at EICMA is worth the wait and they find their place in a competitive market. Suspect the volume budget offerings out of India may end up subsidising the premium offerings into the future.

How would we know? They never provide any news. We never know anything or see anything. It’s all rumors.
Do we really even know if they were actually working on a EV bike anyhow? The world will never know. Same goes for ICE.

Electric motorcycles are too much machine for too little need in cities already saturated with smaller, cheaper, and more practical electric alternatives. For most urban commuters, the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze. Here in Los Angeles too many rental bikes, scooters, ebikes, and inbetweens. Charging is and always will be an issue. This will be for all those people who need the latest iPhone.

I spoke to a guy who runs an EV consultancy company and he confirmed they had been working with Norton. Also worked with Triumph on what looked like a promising bike. Past tense....

Plenty been written about research, development and production partnerships with Norton to develop the EV - well publicised funding from the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) to do so. Lots to read if you’re interested.

There’s a couple of members who reckon that Norton Solihull is a front, with no intention of building bikes! Sounds like a pretty thin conspiracy theory to me 🤪! Each to his own though right!👍

Have to agree!! 🤣

The Triumph option is a better looking beast! I’d like to ride it!

Triumph at least tries to capture some of modern MC design.
Lots of angular plastic bits to cover the uninspiring electric power module/battery unit, and droopy insect eyes headlight fixture.
Good for them.

I notice that Zero are offering electric motorcycle test rides. They are at the Oily Rag in Gloucester tomorrow (Sat 12 July) and the Baffle Haus on the 13th.

Being scared shitless by acceleration does not mean it is good. I like motorcycles which have a soul which can be manipulated. Using a gearbox and engine braking to outride other guys is what motorcycle fun is about. If you had never learned to ride properly, an electric motorcycle might be good, because you would not know any better.

Al, al, al....

Some basics.

If some is good, more is better.

Too much is just enough.

A friend of mine bought a Zero a couple of years ago (has deep pockets) he had it less than two months before it was pinched, I wondered where the market was for a pinched one. Anyway he did actually rate it well. He has many other bikes
