My replacement foot rest, kicker, shifter rubbers have all worn badly within about 6k miles over two or three seasons.

I assume this is not normal wear rate, correct? These are sourced from a canadian AN distributor. Is there a better source?

The quality of replacement rubbers is not as good as the original rubbers they seemed to last forever well mine lasted over 30 years and replacements one were showing signs of wear and tear within a few months, who knows where they came from, but about 10 years ago I got replacement rubbers from RGM I brought a few set of replacement rubbers and so far the first set are still hanging in there and I still have 2 new sets in my parts cabinet.
I had problem with a few replacement foot rubbers with splitting and wear from the boots but so far over 10 years with the RGM foot rubbers are so much better than what my local British bike shop was getting probably from a Indian supplier.

Sure wish RGM would give options for shipping. FedEx says I'll recieve the package this Monday. Fantastic, yet I'm paying 30 Pound Sterling for this unneeded top priority shipment. Meanwhile, other UK vendors using RoyalMail are getting me my ordered in anywhere from 4 to 12 days at a fraction of that cost.

I just spin the footpeg rubbers so that wear is now on the underside . Rubber care or armor all seems to help too .
Should never use Amoral on foot peg rubbers make them slippery one of the reasons they say to never use it on motorcycle seats.

Me too.

I suppose 99% of all purchasers won’t be subjecting their newly rebuilt machines to proper use, so why spec their rubbers to last another 40 years?

I'd settle for a good three or four seasons. The ones in my photos above started showing excessive wear within a few months.

hi,
all the rubbers on my British bikes seem to disintegrate before my eyes, be they foot peg rubbers, kick start or the smaller item on centre stands etc. I just can’t believe how poorly made they are.
I find it so frustrating when one can’t buy quality parts.

Your observations are spot on.

This is, sadly, the way with MANY "knock-off" parts.
To the outward glance looks the same.
But there is so MUCH MORE to manufacturing.

Metal parts as well.

I have been told that if put your new footrest rubbers in a freezer bag and pour in some waxoil
Leave the freezer bag zipped up for a few weeks to give the rubber a good soak it stops the rubber from splitting

Maybe 50 years ago they used real rubber, these days they making things cheaper to look the same but in reality not good quality as old and even worst when affected from sun light and heavy footing, we all wish things were made better these days but the more they sell the more money they get out of us, manufactures these days don't want things to last 30 + years.
We live in a throw away world now, nothing last at all.

Rubber used to be made from rubber trees I believe?
Not so these days

But that should not be a problem as there are synthetic rubber compounds that are high durability (like modern tires etc). Its just the compounding that is not right for a lot of our parts. My new iso rubbers are too hard compared to stock, yet footrests too soft.
