Fitted replacement rubbers on my mk-II 850. All went fine except left side peg. Seems the rubber has too large a hole to grip the peg diameter. It tends to wander outwards and I have to keep push back inward with foot while riding.
I checked right side rubber, same size hole and the peg diameter looks bigger. Is this normal or has someone swapped on bodged left side peg?

Left side peg is 0.45" diameter, rubber hole is 0.56". Right side peg is 0.55".

A DPO issue?

I have seen quite a few "home repaired" footpegs on both Dominators and Commandos - and not all of them good.
Have you examined the rubber you took off to see if some kind of glue was used to hold it on to the undersized peg?
Most genuine pegs I have seen have knurling on the outer 1'2".
Cheers

Older rubber seems to have smaller hole if I recall correctly (took it off a month or more ago).
Just checked AN parts diagram, seems only one part number for both left and right sides. Image also shows a clear shouldered peg profile:

Seems a DPO bodged left side up out of a SS bolt or rod.
Will re-fit tighter fitted rubber until I can get a proper peg ordered in. $20 CDN from my supplier in Edmonton.

Could try the old electric tape bodge, just wind a little tape all the way over the footrest metal to see if that takes up the slack . . . . . .

I had one that loved to 'wander', not too sure if was a pattern peg or rubber. Cured it with an old spring (from what I can't recall) that I deformed to wind round the peg, and then 'screwed' the rubber onto that..
Bodge par excellence :-)

Bodge par excellence :)
It's called 'fettling' as you should know.

Found the older rubber and yes it has a smaller diameter hole, couldn't tell if it had some kind of sleeve inserted or is from a different bike.
Wanted to ride today so I just swapped it on.
Had other issues appear while warming up so canned the ride and took the bonneville out instead.
The joys of Norton ownership!

Stock foot pegs are 9/16" OD. I have made a lot of them over the years. I never seem to have one on hand when I break one, so out comes the 9/16" bar and to the lathe I go...

I cheated. I bought long bolts with nuts. Turned down the hex on the bolt and inserted a length of copper tube over the bolt then tightened it onto the tube. Fittted the bolt onto the foot peg mount then wound the rubber onto the new peg. piece of cake. I carry a spare in my tool kit as well. Ridding 150 miles without one is not so cool. Don't forget to cut a screw driver slot into the threaded end. It makes it easier to remove when you break it. Accidents do happen.

Mine work loose too. Have to whack with a mallet once in a while. Actually lost one on the road once. Stock pegs and Andover rubbers. I'm loathe to glue them on because I like to rotate them as the rubber ribs wear.

The tape method as mentioned earlier, works wonders. . . . .
