I would appreciate it if someone can provide me with the part number for the large rubber grommet that fits in the gusset that is located between the two rear downtubes/backbone and that the main harness passes through.

I have seen these supplied with the main harness in some cases, but have always wondered if an aftermarket part could be repurposed and found someplace local?

Thanks for your consideration.

This one?
The specs from AN show 13/16" ID and 1" OD although the drawing does not show the detail you might want...
part-no: 01.9490

Roadscholar, I have 2 handwritten part numbers in my parts list. I can't remember where I got them. 01-9490L for a 1" hole and G32 for a 1 1/4" hole. Hope this helps too.

I have this grommet, it fits in the gusset behind the oil tank, it is not the one I'm looking for. I do appreciate your consideration; my description may have been a bit misleading, I want the forward most grommet that is located just behind the carbs.

Best.

I want to thank all of you that responded to my question. I have run down all the leads which did not increase my confidence in finding a genuine Norton part., never mind the process of exposing a credit card, shipping charges and the wait to find out if I rolled 7s.

I changed direction and started digging in a bigger patch; commercial/industrial grommets associated with automotive, aviation and marine applications and discovered that those "haystacks" are loaded with "needles". The number of grommets with a groove diameter of 1.25" is, virtually, endless. Sometime this week I'm going to visit the local Hardware store and be done with it.

With many thanks,

Best.

The oddity (or not) is the hole in the frame 1-1/4" but the grommet is 1".

The one from my original loom Mk2a looks to be anything but black.

The hole in the forward gusset measures 1, 1/4"; this equates to the grommet's groove diameter. Grommets with this groove diameter are offered in a lot of different IDs (1" means that the grommet has a 1/8" "wall" between the frame and harness) as well as a lot of different overall ODs and thicknesses on top of different rubber compounds. This set of internet choices as almost as frustrating as having too many channel choices on a cable TV. I like the local H/W store: limited choice, no shipping, instant gratification or hit my ketchup jug; either way I win; right part or calories.

I have seen both black and red grommets on stock Commandos; if someone walked in with a pink grommet I'd pay them in gold...

Best.

It occurred to me afterward the hole in the frame is larger so the wiring loom with grommet in place is easier to install on the production line.

Edit..
Or someone ordered 50000 wrong size grommets.

The grommets you reference are for the the rear brake bracket that the brake light switch's 2 wires run through. I do appreciate the effort you put in, thanks.

Roadscholar, the part numbers I mentioned in post#7 are listed with Walridge Motors in Ontario.

may be that one 06-7177.......?

This may be the winner!

I needed to order a bunch of parts for a customer build and asked about 06-7177, yes, in stock. I asked the tech taking my order if he had the time to measure the groove diameter; told me that if would fit in the 1, 1/4" hole. It should arrive tomorrow and I will post the result/outcome.

This could save me a trip to the H/W store...
