While assembling a gear box I discovered the 20 tooth sprocket was longer than normal and would only allow the big nut to have three threads. Any ideas what this came from? It looks like a Norton sprocket, It only has one screw hole for the locking plate, and the splined section is longer.

Featherbed models use a 5/8 x 1/4 sprocket (R) and Commandos use a 5/8 x 3/8 one (L). They have different offsets.

Depends on the year. In 1965 (?) Featherbeds switched to 5/8 x 3/8.

So the mystery is solved. The 74 Commando had an early Atlas sprocket installed. The sleeve gear was in poor condition and easily fell out of the bearing. Three threads on the sleeve gear were demolished when I removed the big nut. The mainshaft was no prize either.
Thanks for the info.

Yes,, I see now there is some confusion on this.

If you look at AN in the Wideline (AMC), Slimline and P11/G15 pages, they all list a 5/8" x 1/4" - 04.0010/19.

If you look at the '66-'68 Master Parts List here for 650SS, Atlas, P11/G15 - it lists 5/8" x 3/8" 04.0480 - same as the Commando.

The Hi-Pipe '67 P11 actually used a 17 tooth gearbox sprocket as did the N15/G15 (P11A and Ranger 750 used the 19 tooth). All 3/8 wide. I used the 19 on my '67 for better street manners.

The listing on Andover site is incorrect.
