Having difficulty locating +.020 hastings rings (non iron), so have been looking for alternatives.

Has anyone had experience with these rings? They come supplied with a 'gapless' oil ring

I have a set of + 0.020". Haven't used them, so can't vouch for the performance

Just a warning in case you don't know.
Early pistons have a shallow ring pack while later in the commando range have what most think of as normal rings which are deeper. I have several sets of NOS and hot rod pistons that are shallow ring and will not accept late rings. I did machine a set of pistons for a 650 to accept deep oil rings what a pain....
Using NOS old ring may get you shallow ring pack and therefore NG for late pistons. It's a long story how I found out...

Thanks Dave, the ones I'm looking at are listed as having an oil ring for a 3.4mm groove, as they will be fitted to JCC pistons, I'm assuming these rings are the shallow type and no-go

Just a warning on Hasting rings. I rebuilt a 650 BSA Lighting Rocket and the rings are no longer marked top on the middle ring, guessing it's cut square. the left cylinder would not seal smoked bad. Talked to Klemphs and got new rings from UK. All rings were marked in the traditional way, no problems sealed right away

THe Norton pistons are the same ring top and middle. They are marked with a dot .. But it is so faint and hard to see , I need a magnifying glass. When I sell Hastings rings, I look for the dot and then mark that side with a silver magic marker so the customer knows which side is up. Norton rings have a bevel. I had to call Hastings to get it right and was told why the bevel on the rings is put in different than the traditional way, I think it was the middle ring bevel?

It's been a while but I'm pretty sure the top ring said top the middle had no marks and the oil ring was one piece cast iron and didn't matter. They were in a separate envelopes. The oil ring was one piece. Norton oil rings should be three piece.?.? I prefer three piece but Hastings didn't offer them. I suppose they are limiting their selection and these were the same diameter as something else.

On Hastings, see this: https://www.accessnorton.com/NortonCommando/hastings-rings.32036/

Also, for the last few years, there has been no marking on the Hastings rings for Norton to say which side is up. You have to look at the packaging for the drawing of the inside bevel and follow that. Caution, they had packaging that was wrong for a while - if in doubt, call them - their customer support is easy to deal with.
