Hi
Haven't posted in awhile as things got put on hold but I'm now back to it. Fitted new standard Hasting rings to my dished pistons today and wanted to be sure that I've got it correct. The rings came in a pouch marked 1, 2, and 3 groove so I've got their location correct but noticed that #1 and #2 are beveled on one side of the ID of each ring. Does the bevel face the top of the piston? There are no dots or any other identification on the rings other than the bevels. Thanks

According to the sketches that came with my Hasting rings, they show the dots on top of the first and second rings, and the bevel is sketched facing the bottom of the piston. If yours do not have the dots, I would follow any sketches that came with the rings.

Wow!!! The link Greg put up in Reply #3 will blow your mind if you read all replies.
I hope you get it sorted.

OMG Greg! Glad I asked. The confusion seems ridiculous. My rings came from CBS and were also restamped with an Emgo part number. Everything does fit very nicely on my “dished” pistons. Now that I’ve read your link I have to go back and take a closer look under lighted magnification for dots. Thanks all

Just remember it's just like sex .
" If it's in, it's up , and if it's out, it's down " this refers to the internal chamfer or external step . This helps induce torsional twist .Cheers .sorry for jms

Yes, Hasting's dots are almost invisible. Generally, with the rings right side up and the gap away from you, the dot, if it exists, is about 1/4" from the gap and without magnification you would swear it's just a random spot.

IMHO, it's a BAD idea today to buy Hastings rings. They had many packaging issues and they quit making them over six years ago. The set I bought in 2018 was made in 2010, had no dots, and the package pictures were wrong.

You can make the dots appear better if you rub them with your thumb.
