Norton dominator is coming..

Ok, first of all thank you for your advices, even if it could be precious to know how to fix it, dealers are far from me. Anybody had nice experiences with dominator?!
Buy the bike you dream of. Even if it does have a problem, so what. It can be fixed.
I’ll never sell either of my Norton’s
I live In the states so I also don’t have dealer or factory support. Didn’t stop me from buying 2.

I think you’re being harsh. Just because you had a lemon Doesn’t mean they’re all bad.
Don’t act like triumphs are victorious, their not. I see plenty of people having issues with them as well.
It doesn’t just seem like me though that is having all these problems, and everyone is in agreement that they are a seriously flawed and underveloped motorcycle and at the price they sell for nobody should have to put up with any issues.
 
Some people have very few issues, almost zero in fact (mine was one such bike so I know they exist). It’s quite understandable how these folk will think the bikes are awesome, they are super fun to ride, and if reliable too, then what’s not to like?!

However, some folk seem plagued with issues, that then get seriously exasperated by failure of the factory or dealer to fix it, and / or communicate, and suffer complex / expensive logistics returning the bike multiple times etc. It’s very easy to see how these poor folk will think the bikes are the devil incarnate!!

Bring back the dealer network..
You can’t fix existing problems or even expand further without dealer support.
Not everyone is mechanical minded,
So that could mean a four hundred mile round trip to renew a fuse if bike is still in warranty!

Another one here with no issues. My Commando was meant to be a modern version of my old 72 combat roadster and it fits that bill and is a keeper. It is simple enough to service myself when the warranty runs out. It is after all an air cooled twin with only one balancer shaft unlike other manufacturers who fit generally fit two. So I think vibration is key here and it varies on how well the crank and balancer shaft have been balanced and the fit in the frame. Now that all the sensors are sorted and you have open silencers with the correct map, the main thing to be aware of is the delicate looking electrics and fastener torques. Checking wiring routings, fuses and relays and certain fastener torques now and then is a small price to pay for a unique hand built modern classic bike.

If you are about to take delivery I hope you can enjoy the bike. Your eyes are wide open and if/ when an issue arises then you can sought it out. As has been stated, some have issues and some are excellent. Perhaps it may be worth trying not to worry about stuff that may not happen...but just address the issue should it arise! We are all in this and there is much help and advice out there!

Well you didn’t have a problem voicing your dislike of the brand. But when asked what the problems were you clam up in fear of upsetting the company. Makes no sense to me.
They don’t own you
 
I kind of find it humorous (I’m not literally laughing) but the owners of a modern Norton that live in England actually have it made compared to all other countries.
Some of you that live in the U.K. have a much better dealer support than any other country. Not to mention the factory. I get you may be a few hundred miles away, but try a few thousand from the nearest dealer. Or better yet, try a few thousand miles away from the next nearest modern norton owner.
If the 961 had a carburetor on it, it would be next to flawless.

I get the distance from support argument and relatively speaking we in the U.K. are “lucky” in terms of actually getting some support. However, like the USA, dealers are dropping Norton as a brand due to the number of warranty issues they were/ are dealing with so the reliability issue still remains the biggest hurdle for owners who are not mechanically minded - and yes hindsight is brilliant as in “if I had known......”
My 2018 Sport was finally sorted by the factory with the replacement of the ECU (after sensors were replaced, TPS wire replaced etc) but it cost me near to £800 ($1000) just to get it to and from the factory, not including any service costs charged by Norton. When the EML comes on, you are told not to ride it as you could seriously damage the engine/electrics/ECU and under warranty you need to return to seller (factory in this case) or the warranty is void. As I say, I couldn’t justify the additional expenditure to transport before any parts or servicing costs were added. If my mechanical skills were up to it I would have kept the bike.

Heaven forbid!
But a set of FCR's and a Triumph Scrambler Igniter box to run the ignition...now that would be MAGNIFICENT.

Of course be environmentally friendly, be certain to ebay the ECU, throttle bodies and all sensors for the poor souls who will still need them.:D

I wouldn’t hold your breath. When I took mine for the 500 mile service and update, SG was there but not to keen to talk to customers when approached -McPint was there for some promo work and playing go carts with his son, he was happy to chat!
Norton could take a leaf from CCM, they send a technician to you for service and warranty work #maninavan if Norton were to do the same they could also teach customers how to do stuff as everyone on the forum who “spanners” says these bikes are easy to work on.

Now that’s a great idea, & 5 year warranty/service plan , as I’ve previously mentioned, more hands on spanner technicians would turn this all around

I'm lucky, my warranty expires soon so I won't have to worry about getting warranty fixes, I live in the heartland of John Deere/JCB/Claas ownership where folk restore old Massey Fergusons for fun and most of the mechanics have a Snap-on tool chest to die for, if they can't fix my 961 then there is no hope.... but it won't go wrong, I have a good feeling :)

Stuart and Simon were both happily milling around on the stand last year rubbing shoulders with and chatting to the public.
 
I came away very impressed with them both in terms of their openness and passion.

Sadly however, that openness and passion hasn’t put 650s into production... yet...

What a bunch of winging shite. Let the bike breathe. Norton can’t do that as their hands are tied under euro emission controls. If you can’t do it yourself take it to an old, small engine spanner man. It’s a beautiful old school style engine. Mine is f..king superb. At purchase I had the worst oil in air box issues that became an easy fix by getting the engine to breathe to the atmosphere.
Triumph after one year look like they’re 10 years old.
Stop expecting Norton to wipe your arse for you!!!!!
That’s my rant for the month but I think I’m done with this site as there has been nothing constructive about repairs/maintenance on it for some time.

Well, apart from the Triumph igniter, that’s how they were designed! We even know the ideal size and settings (from Kenny Dreer).

I reckon it would really free these bikes up from a load of niggles and insert even more old skool character.
