Wudda been a doddle to check valve geometry and have the head on and off as many times as you like whilst the engine was on the bench.

Now the bottom end is in the bike you really do need to hope it’s all ‘right first time’.

Personally, I prefer to assemble the top end on the bench, yes, the engine is a bit of a heavy lump, but I prefer that to pissing around with the head in the frame personally.

Nothing is more puckering than what feels like an hour before that oil starts coming back to the oil tank. :D:eek:

Personally, I always find it a nervous time too. It’s suddenly gone from ‘project’ to ‘motorcycle’ and my mind can’t quite ignore the 1001 opportunities for error that I cudda made along the way!

I was at the DMV yesterday getting the Interstate titled and registered. I thought about registering the Combat but then thought that if it blew up that the $100 registration for a dead bike would just be adding insult to injury.

Good call. I’d have done the same, but not through fear of wasting the $100...

Fear of ‘tempting fate’ would have been my reason as I’m a superstitious old woman really !

It gets a lot of compliments. I forgot that they are Toga mufflers. You can't see the stamping as it's under the clamp.
Have the center sections of baffles rattled out yet?
Two of the three I have had did.

Isn't it a great feeling when they fire up for the first time after all the time and effort that has gone into it, now just do the final tweaks and get out on it and enjoy all your efforts.
