Hello, I can produce colour wiring diagrams at A3 size laminated. These are great for the workshop as they are wipe clean. At the moment I produce ones for early Moto Guzzis but as I know your uberfurer Jerry I have agreed to do some Commando ones. What do you guys think? I need to know the models and number of folk who would want one so I can start on the most popular.

Best wishes Chris

Bill Turnbull did an excellent rendition of the pre-MK3 diagram in color.

With his permission I have modified it to accommodate some popular upgrades.

These only took a few minutes to do, and I would be happy to make others for anyone that is unsure or uncomfortable with wiring.

Hope this helps!

Still one or two errors on those diagrams.
Blue/yellow UY should be drawn connecting to master switch terminal 4, not T3 as shown. Brown/green NG connects to T3 and not T4.
The ballast resistor to coil(-) wire shown as white/blue WU should be white/purple from the ballast resistor, not just the link wire.
Direction indicator green/red GR and green/white GW from the handlebar switch cluster go to the under-tank junction and not as shown.
'LH' and 'RH' handlebar switches may be reversed.

@L.A.B. I'm happy to modify them - it will take just a couple of minutes, if the general consensus is that we should have something accurate rather than replicate the inaccuracies of the workshop manual!

I’ll take a look tomorrow morning

The GY and GR direction indicator wiring are inaccuracies on the factory drawings. The WP (BW and BY) are omissions. The factory drawings do show Edit: WY UY to T4 and NG to T3 correctly.

This only applies to the '72 - '74 wiring diagram as the '71 (below) is not exactly the same.

'68-'69 and 850 Mk3 again are both completely different.

The diagrams have all been updated now to reflect the corrections that @L.A.B. has highlighted.

@lcrken yes, i'd like to take a look at the MK3 diagrams - @Saber13 has kindly done a colour version, so with his permission, maybe i could look to do something similar.

Outstanding, thank you for doing this.
Nice to have cleaned up drawings.

I have further drawn on a print showing three phase with fuse direct to battery, assimilator elimination with Spark Brite added and dedicated ground to coils.
If your offering to clean this, where do I send it? PM sent.

Grant, Holy smokes!—if you’ll pardon the Lucas joke. That diagram is beautiful and will be so useful. I’d like to publicly thank you for your contributions, the work you did on just the stock diagram was incredibly useful to me and having the custom diagram even more so.

I found the subject of this diagram, a 1973 850 Roadster, in 1984 in Sonoma, California with just 200 miles on it. Despite the mileage, its paint was very faded—still is. It had been left outside for years, run from time to time in the guy’s backyard, stationary on its centerstand. He no longer rode, but loved the sound of his Norton. Nevertheless, it ran pretty well!—but made a lot more power when it got a rebore, new valves and guides.

As per a post elsewhere, but in the interest of keeping everything in one place.

I have added a wiring diagram for a Power Arc ignition:

Norton Commando Wiring Diagram + Power Arc

And here is a second diagram.
This one includes the MC2 dual output single coil that Old Britts sell in their Electronic Ignition kit:

Norton Commando Wiring Diagram + Power Arc + MC2 coil

The Power Arc is interesting, as they are optical instead of magnetic, plus they support multiple ignition timing curves which you can tweak yourself.
