Does anyone know what is/was the correct width for the 'tombstone ' gearbox bottom lug? Thanks, pbu 232

Well, there’s Norton Dolls Head, plunger international gearbox and Featherbed Gearbox.

Never heard of 'tombstone ' gearbox –which one do you mean?

Sturmey-Archer, Dolls head, tombstone and AMC boxes. Sorry I can't help with a dimension. I would think they would all be similar but with British engineering of the day you could never be sure.

actually it is a plunger international, but should be the same as late 40's ES2, if that is of any help

1949-56 garden gate/plunger model 7 with laydown "norton" gear box is 3.46" bottom lug and 3.3" top lug.
Same as big single engine plate spacing ? I would initially guess they are the same, but I have NO expertise with singles.
Believe dolls head shifter is same "norton" gearbox as laydown shifter, again I have NO experience with singles.

Thanks mate, I'll check it later, the frame is worn also, so it's a drama. BG (pbu 232)
