I am reassembling my Commando after rebuilding the wheels. When I assemble the front wheel with spacers, the full width (of hub with spacers) measures 5.15”. But the inside faces of the forks measure 5.25”, thus causing a slight axial compression on the ends of the fork legs. Is that correct? I am pretty certain I am not missing any spacers on the front hub, but I just want to make sure 5.15” is the correct hub width with spacers. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

The axle pins the wheel to the right hand fork and is floating in the left (until the pinch bolt is tightened) so there will be a slight protrusion at that side to the chromed end cap/spacer.
You will see that when fit, that is your missing measurement.

Ah, yes. Of course! I knew that, but wasn’t thinking straight. Thank you!

Once the end nut is tight, bounce the forks a couple of times before tightening the pinch bolt.
