the ignore button is a great thing !

I have no need for it, he has some interesting stories and I believe there is an etiquette to be shown based on age.
I grew up in an era when at the Sunday cinema, the curtains would open and there was the Queen on the screen to address us antipodeans and you stood up, you gave your seat up for the elderly or any woman, I still do but for the most part those days are gone.

I care little if someone repeats the same thing or posts left field, there is a bigger picture and do not look forward to the day when I can just look at my bikes until there is no choice but to sell them.......

Sure it is probably safer to some degree on a race track than the road even at cruising speeds but motorcycles to me have always been about adventure and what is over the horizon.

It’s an over simplification to say the track is safer than the road.

Yes, everything Al says is true, I agree with the logic. But the counter argument is that when you’re on the track, you and everyone around you is riding to their absolute limit, and one split second mistake can lead to an off, the margin for error is massively reduced, the chances of an off (ie crashes per mile) are massively increased.

Strangely, I didn't think about hurting him, but felt a loss for my bike because it was in such good shape. I didn't feel the road rage like I do at times. I was also dazed and wondering if I should go to hospital, which I didn't. I might lose it if he were in front of me now. This is the second time I have been hit while riding on two wheels by a driver that was in the wrong. First time was on my Cushman Eagle when I was 14.

Don’t think about hurting this guy. Just make sure the full weight of the law is brought onto him. He clearly broke the law, make sure you press charges fully.

You’ll feel better knowing he got what he deserved, and it might even teach him a lesson and make the roads a bit safer.

A bit disconcerting as the piccie of the red Commando is EXACTLY my bike down to the black painted guard stays! Uncanny but reminds
me that I must be 110 percent alert at all times whilst riding out.
You beat the reaper on this, be thankful.

Hurting someone over a accident gets you nowhere but more troubles, let the law deal with his mistake and the insurance company deal with the claims, there is enough road rage these days.
Its a sad thing seeing your pride and joy damaged by someone else mistake, but taking it out of his hide is not the way to go.

Everyone here on the forum is, first and foremost, glad you're okay. I'm sure of it. As to the question of parts, they are all attainable and there are even more choices than there ever was before (a blessing for us and a testament to our Marque. And if I might, I'd like to second the advice on dealing with the Insurance company, they will probably try to lowball you, it happened to me recently. They're counting on you being in a hurry /needing to get back on The Road again and therefore ready to agree to their offer. Cj

First - I'm sorry for your accident, and glad you're OK.

My bike is insured through Condon Skelly, they do classic vehicles, for an agreed value of $15000 US. I supplied photos of the bike and copies of eBay listings for similar condition machines when I signed up with them and they had no problems with the value.

I had a low speed crash a few years ago and the insurance company sent an adjuster to look at it. He took my word for the cost of parts replacement and even gave me $75 per hr for labor, again on my estimate. They paid promptly. So, not all insurance companies suck.

Good luck putting yours back together.

Thanks for the advice. I had recent experience with insurance companies on another loss, so I am getting ready. I would appreciate any solid evidence of value like sold examples to show them what they are worth.

Glad to hear you got to walk or limp away from that and live another day.

They will right it off for sure no matter where you lived in the world.

Near all of those parts are available off the shelf from Andover Norton, a new fuel tank from EMGO.
The cost would high by the time you painted the tank, if you got the bike back and a decent payout it would be worth it but a start from scratch project and would want to check the engine over carefully for any damage.
I would almost advise if you can not do it yourself, finding some form of 'expert from a local Norton club etc to go over the bike also, two sets of eyes can be better than one.

I hope you have good pictures of the bike before the incident, if the bike was in very good Original condition I believe that is a key factor to a high Claim perhaps even more so over one loaded with 'trinkets.

Not that it is relevant really, but if my Mk2a was still in the US and was offered US$8500 it would be a firm no.

Where does Andover get their parts? They seem to have everything except fuel tank and mufflers.

A/N own most original factory drawings. They contract with many manufacturers
to produce their parts based upon the drawings and specifications. They do sell
mufflers and fuel tanks but seem to be out of stock for those items right now.
There are numerous discussion on this forum about fuel tanks ranging from
many unacceptable examples sold on eBay from India, to apparently very good
quality ones from Emgo. Pea Shooter mufflers are a high turnover item and can
be purchased from a whole host of vendors and made by a number of different
manufacturers in the USA and GB. They range from ones with full baffling inside, to straight passthrough, with attendant noise/volume ranges.

First thing is that you are OK.
I too was hit by a stop sign runner and my previously untouched 74 850 was totaled. That was 25 years ago, I bought the bike back and found a frame and rebuilt it. When I met with the adjuster I took as many ads for Norton's that I could find to justify my claim. In Arizona there isn't a mandatory helmet law but if you are in an accident you are held partially responsible for your injuries, I had a heavy jacket and my helmet on. Got $175,000 plus the settlement on the bike. My leg was broken in 4 places and off work for 8 weeks!
I have a low mileage 74 Mk2A that I need to sell if you can't fix yours.

Glad you are ok. Someone already said, don't cash the check until you are satisfied with the amount. Who the other insurance company is can be important. Someone rear ended my Norton and USAA was very accommodating. I got an estimate from a shop and the adjuster actually bumped the estimate up. In your case I suspect they will total it, or try to. The most expensive and most difficult to replace is the engine and transmission. Everything else is relatively reasonable, even the frame.

Glad you are okay, but be sure you really are. A neck or spine problem might not surface for several days, wouldn't hurt to get checked out by a physician. You might have a pain and suffering adder to your settlement, and don't forget loss of use of the vehicle and compensation for your lost time and inconvenience. I hope you get a fair payout and your bike back.

Wow, sounds like big settlement, but I can imagine you went through a lot of pain and misery that you didn't really want. Things like that cannot really be justified through reasoning, IMHO. I was very lucky. Thanks for your reply. What part of Texas? I am originally from Dallas.

Glad your OK.

WTBS, a well sorted out commando is $10,000. minimum.

As far as riding danger on track vs road, no doubt the road is more dangerous, unless racers are texting now during their race...

Thank you. I only seem to be bruised thanks to my heavy leather jacket and good helmet, but am thinking about a check up.

Which reminds me, they need to replace your helmet since it took a shot, and I would get a good look at your jacket and other clothes for damage.

I'm glad you are ok mate
Don't worry about hurting this bloke it won't get you anywhere,
Just get your bike sorted to the best of your ability and get back on the road
