If you were in the market for a new bike what would it be and why.

Heart - Norton Commando 750 (black with gold pin stripe); I’d like the set. 1967 and 2017

Head - Norton Dominator Naked - f@#k that thing is beutiful. No other reason except that I think that it will probably become a real classic and I aim to grow old disgracefully!!!! “It’s better to burn out than fade away!”

A Norton Superlight of course. You need to ask why?!? Because of the super focused engineering thinking that’s gone into it, it’s stunning design and engineering features, and the fact it’s all wrapped up in a hand built British package and not yet another global corporate sanitised ‘cookie cutter’ offering. Plus it’s got power that should make it fun without being (way) too much. It’ll be a fun road bike and an awesome track day bike.

Could also be tempted by a Ducati Monster cos they look fun.

Or a 959 Panigale because they’re a bit like the Superlight, meaning they’re a cheaper more usable version of the bonkers big brother version (and a lot cheaper than a Superlight too)!

Or an Indian FTR, I think, then sometimes I think not.

A big HD with a stage 2 kit is also very tempting because despite all the negative points, they are big fun to ride. But the size and weight rule one out for me.

Nothing from the Japanese manufacturers even remotely tempts me.

And despite being a lifelong Triumph fan, no Hinckley Thaiumphs tempt me either, despite me wanting them to!

Steve - I don't believe you used your head with either of those selections - definitely heart with both. Two hearts?
Which probably means you're a time lord (the sonic screwdriver will probably come in handy on either commando!)
Cheers
Rob (400km north of you)

If I were a time lord then the new '72 Commando I walked away from(I still regret that), new '47 knucklehead, & not picking up the crated '75 mkIII I passed on in 1979 for 3500.

The new 2019 Triumph Rocket 111 if it's as cool as the pictures. Why!!!. I have a Tiny Penis.:p
Or just maybe a Dominator. Why!!!. Because as well as a Tiny Penis, I'm a Romantic Masochist.

English motorcycles as every learned man knows are the only proven method of penile enlargement, so if already well endowed one must utilize an aluminum foil crotch shield to prevent becoming seriously deformed....or join a carnival.

I will probably buy a new Triumph Speed Twin when I recover from the massive government tax bill this year.
The SpdTwn looks like a great fun/hooligan bike, and if it's anything like my 2006 Bonneville, as reliable as a cast iron stove.

What I would like to buy is either a trellis framed 961 Commando.
Look at all the room behind the cylinders for a supercharger.

Or a new Britten.

Or an Irving-Vincent 1300

Incidentally, anyone who buys a Norton, any Norton, and continues to own it would qualify as a masochist.
No need to restate the obvious.

I like the Suzuki Katana tribute. Saw it at the Progressive bikeshow and was impressed. I had an "82 a few years ago and couldnt wait to get rid of it. Too long/heavy but looked terrific. The new one looks just as good and the only complaint I've read about so far has been the fuel capacity. Not a huge concern for me as my long haul trip days are over.

There are some great suggestions already on this thread , the xt1200 Yamaha is an all day everyday rider for mega miles so my needs are meanial for a sensible bike, but I do like the old 2 strokes ,here’s my mates H2 that I may of been tempted at 10 years ago at £4000, but he wants another £9/10k on top of that now,& as for chop,it’s gotta be one of the greats captured here at last months daytona beach week

When I go to the new bike shows the only booth that has anything interesting for me is the Triumph display.
It's worth noting that Triumph is having huge growth in sales while many others, including Harley, are slumping or stagnating.
Triumph seems to be doing it right at the moment.

Heart says something like the Kwaka 750 triple above or a Suzi 750 'kettle'.... nice smelly 2-stroke.

Head says something with a sidecar, a new Ural maybe, or put a Watsonian on the Guzzi :)

Yes, seems that Triumph identifies a niche or style that will appeal to a market segment, then builds a model to fit.
So many different 900 twin models, and looks like the 1200 is going the same way.
I came close to buying the standard Thrux, but wanted normal handlebars.
Then Triumph introduced the Speed Twin - T120 style tank, mag wheels, dual Brembos.
SCHWING!

If I hadn't been raped by the IRS this month, I would have bought one already.

Im lusting after the new gold wing. Smaller, lighter. Hands down the best travel bike. And the automatic is the bomb

Totally agree about the Triumphs. My heart nearly bought the Speed Twin after a test ride in February, as I was also looking for something with normal handlebars, but my head decided that it would make more sense to spend a bit of money on the ThruxtonR and put higher bars on that. Triumph recently sent me a customer survey about future colour schemes, and various gadgetry such as electronically adjustable suspension - it's nice to feel that you have some input into the future direction. If the ThruxtonR handlebar mod doesn't work out I will be revisiting the Speed Twin.
