The problem is the rest of the engine looks so nice.

I though Jim said he was going to paint the barrel but I was mistaken. No problem, I’ve already got some paint ready. Just need to mask off.

It's pretty damp outside right now. I may hold off until it dries out more. Unfortunately in Oregon that means July. So I'll paint it soon.

I had a local shop here do the head. http://www.baisley.com/ This guy use to do work for Kenny Dreer so he knows his way around a Norton head. Sandblasted, new guides and valves (Black Diamond) and seats recut. They also took a smidge off the surface. Of course as I slide down the slippery slope I need to order new hardware to match the refreshened surfaces...

I procrastinated putting this order together. I know how much shipping is from McMaster so I didn't want to just order $3 worth of plugs and pay $8 for shipping. So I added on hose clamps for the fuel and oil lines. When I got the order I realized I should have bought enough plugs for two engines... Doh!

Kibblewhite springs? Looks like retainers.

The invoice doesn't call out the brand of springs (I think it just says Pro Set). But valves, springs, retainers, etc. are all new.

Very shiny SD ... Is that vapour blasted, if so I would be curious to know what happens if you put WD40 on a clean (white) rag and rub it on the head and if the rag rub spot is silver/grey/gray ish.

Vapour blasted parts still need a lot of cleaning afterwards from personal experience so was curious.

The last thing I got blasted was both Norton and Moto Guzzi parts... when they came back they looked spotless, doing as I said up the page left the rag a silver grey suggesting there is still glass ? residue left on the surface and took a lot of cleaning, internal sections are somewhat of a worry.

Head was sandblasted, not sure what media they used.

Cases were vapor blasted. I'll try to see what happens when I wipe them down.

I know that I would have replaced the seat before I cut deeply into the aluminum around the seat.
Replacing seats is easy. Replacing aluminum is not.

They had instructions to replace the seats if they needed it. Supposedly the valve should be set to spec. We’ll see when the head goes on.
