I just now, after owning my Norton for 13 years, realized that my headlight shell does not look like the headlight shells in the parts book. My bike is '73 per the plate, registered as a 74. My headlight shell has a toggle switch that is to the rear of the three warning lights. All the headshells I see in the parts book show the toggle switch forward of the warning lights. So does that mean my headlight shell is an aftermarket replacement part that "got it wrong?" FWIW Old Britts shows a headlight shell that looks like mine but, again, unless my Norton Parts book is wrong, it's different than those shown in the book.

Also, I have a sealed beam headlight (a replacement from India when I bought the bike) but I want to go back to the OEM-style headlight and maybe install an LED bulb. I can't figure out what I need parts-wise to replace the sealed beam. I assume a reflector and a lens ???? Part numbers would be good!

Mexicomike, I have mounted a generic H4 reflector/lens with a fleabay led light "bulb" in a Lucas rim. I have not tried it yet as my bike is still mostly in pieces. The reflector/lens has a SAE mark on it so I am assuming it is for rhd. It is made in Japan and has the number 7022 on it. I can not find any part number. The LED is one of many different ones on fleabay. It has the dc converter and cooling fan on the back of the assembly but looks like it should fit in the shell. It also has the standard H4 connector on a short cable.

You have the original headlight shell. The parts book drawing is not correct. I just looked at my parts book and never noticed that before.

I've got the BPF one linked from DynamoRegulators above...but it is also available in USA from Classic British Spares for similar pricing:

Direct fitment to oem shell & connector. Decent beam pattern Hi/Lo and brightness.

For excellent light throw with LED's, you'll likely need one of the more higher output types with bigger heat sinks, cooling fans and voltage controllers which are typically H4 or other modern connection formats. I've put one (Philips LumiLED 3000 Lumens with flexible woven copper-ribbon heat sink) in my 5 3/4" 2013 Triumph T100 Bonneville shell.

If you want something $$$ then you can get a Cibie, they even have one with a parking light. I haven't looked in to it but I strongly suspect they will work with a Lucas rim.

Put a Cibie in my 73 750 shortly after I bought it new. Great light but couldn't have been more than $30 bucks then. Have to look for original box with lucas lens in -may have price on it. Other 73 has original light, gotta try an led or something before I go out at night on it.

Not plugging any particular dealer here, but these guys have Lucas and aftermarket headlamp parts, including LED "bulbs" for old-style Lucas sockets (and Positive ground). I have been happy with their service with several orders in the past few months. Just bought the repop 7" and 5-3/4" reflector kits for everyday use on my Vin and Tiger Cub.

Yes I just got one from them and popped out the old popped in the new-LED that is. Just got back from a nice 68 degree ride and the light is a nice bright white. Don't do too much night riding anymore but nice to know if I do my old eyes will be able to see.
