Custom Cable Kits

I’m done with the standard issue throttle cables offered.
I want a proper fit without the slop, excess play, awkward rerouting etc. and yes I have experimented with all the various adjustments on the cable and the carburetors. Not satisfactory.
I’m looking for a supplier/kit that will allow the construction of an exact cable length without any compromise. I am good with what I have from carb to junction block.
I have performed a thorough search but wanted to run it by you guys first for a source or modification you have found reliable.

I need an accurate length from twist throttle to junction to block.
I have read previous threads regarding this but most are a bit older reference than 019’.
I am also curious regarding the soldering of the end “tabs”.
I am proficient at welding/soldering but question the strength of a soldered end tab. Will it really be reliable?
Thanks in advance from US.

lineslinger, get yourself a Maddas140 single throttle cable linkage and two of those cables are dispensed with immediately, and it has an accessible adjuster.

Cheers Ludwig, will check out the push bike cable supplies.
In reference to the larger diameter inner cable, more a comment pointed towards clutch and rear brake cable sizes.
Regards Mike

Bicycle cable and housing cutters are worth the $$$ to make clean cuts on both...several brands are available.

I am A big fan of simple modifications that help alleviate/deal with the gremlins that always seem to show up when it comes to synchronizing multiple carburetors.

Studying the pics, the simplicity of that block makes a lot of sense.

Is there a direct link to the source of the MA 140 modification/component or someone to approach with my questions?

" I do find those linear lined outers to be quite inflexible and and difficult to shorten neatly.

cliffa." ( quote )

Actually I see that as a plus : no sharp bends possible .
Spiral wound throttle cables get easily kinked when accidentally trapped in for ex. a steering stop .
IMO a kink ruins the cable .
Cut them with a disk , not a hacksaw .
A std clutch outer cable will compress about 2 mm under a 50 kg load (= heavy clutch ) .
I find that a lot . A linear lined outer will make the clutch feel more precise , more defined .
Spiral wound outer can take bigger loads , like for brake cables .
Compression is of course of little importance for throttle cables .

Hi Ludwig,
Actually thinking about it that makes perfect sense. Two questions if I may...

When you use a disc cutter you must get very sharp edges on one side of the inner strands of the outer (if that makes sense). How you you clean those up?
What size cable do you use for the clutch?

Cheers,

cliffa.

With a little care you can make a clean cut .
It can help to insert an old inner ( or a toothpick ? ) for extra support .
Sharp edges on the strands are not a problem because of the teflon lining .
I use 1.5 mm bicycle brake cable for the clutch , but that is another story ..

Thanks Ludwig, I might give that a go. I’ve been doing a little digging, and It seems Linear cables are the preferred option for derallier equipped bicycles as they transmit the index motion more accurately - and as you describe it it will improve the feel.

Thanks for the tips ! Looking forward to that “other story” ;)

Cheers,

cliffa.
