Hi guys.Currently have spent the year building my Norvin Comet.Pretty much finished.I bought the Commando via Ebay about 7 years ago.Imported it from USA back to UK.Its been resting in workshop since.I did intend to cafe it.However, since Ive done some homework, and discovered its a 750S,plan is to resto to standard spec. Its 100% original.Id swear miles at 6k is correct. There is an issue with kickstart, which maybe why it was laid up, many many years ago.
Frame no is 137702.Engine is 20M3S/137702.Makes it a 1970 750S.I thought all export (to USA) models were fitted with high level pipes. As you can see it has peashooters.
The paint looks original too. However, Ive never seen Metalflake green Nortons(perhaps I havent looked hard enough!)
Any comments, input gratefully received!
Id love to post pics, but cant work it out.If anyone can help? Please bear in mind,im a bloke of a certain age.Using techy talk just confuses me.Usually,I just click link, then my images folder opens and I click it over.Doesnt seem to work here?

Did you get that information directly from either the VMCC, UK NOC or Andover Norton? As the last 'S' was supposed to have been 135088 also 20M3S doesn't automatically make it an 'S' model.

No, only 'S' and 'SS' models.

S types were usually red or blue.

Only VIP members can upload directly from their computers. Non-VIPs need to use an image hosting website such as: https://postimages.org/ (but preferably NOT photobucket).

Hi.I got the info from various sites, which all seem to concour.Plus the fact it has correct switch, headlight halo too.It appears identical to every S I have seen.
I am now a VIP member.Still dont know how to post pics!

Great. Kickstarter issues are common , you need to open up the gearbox, fit new modern layshaft bearings and a new kicker pawl and possibly a new 1 st. gear. It's that inner cut of the gear that can wear out from the sloppy kickings not the outer gear face. Good luck.

Sorry, but that doesn't make it an S type. More likely an early Roadster (especially as it's green) which was very similar to the 'S' type (halo etc.) but with the low-level exhaust system.

Could easily have had high level pipes replaced by a roadster system when they cracked.

To post a pick, I click the Upload a File button at bottom on the reply entry box. Then I browse to my image folder, select the image file and it loads up to the site...but then you still need to select "full image" or thumbnail size before it appears in your reply posting.
Pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Most I've seen were Roman Fireflake Purple so nice to see this green one for the first time.
Judging by the dust it will need some or all new rubber too, enjoy.

So I have a 750 roadster, with early "bits" in an unusual colour.Ill settle for that!

Well, without confirmation from one of the above sources then it's more likely to have started out as a Roadster. ;)

Well, I can still begin to work on it, irrespective of what it is.Norvil would have me believe its an S.Ill get in touch with Andover.;)

Yes, it was worth it for the small fee I sent to AN. Simon at AN sent the despatch record stating that my 71 750 came from factory as a yellow SS; and, according to Greg Marsh's records it was one of the first 20 built according to the VIN. But when it got to the US apparently the SS was not attractive enough to get out the door fast enough so the dealer converted it to a Roadster.

Whatever the model, that is a very cool color! Hope you can keep the tank in service, although most glass fibre tanks have been retired here, thanks to ethanol.

Your bike is more unique than you realize. The '70 model has some subtle differences from other year models. You have the camshaft breather which was eliminated on later models. You have a unique frame that has a 27 degree steering head and yokes with less offset than later models. You have a frame with a different placement of the downtube crossmember which makes fitting the comstock sump plug breather impossible. You have a single bolt swingarm tube on your engine cradle, which allows the swingarm pivot tube to develop lateral play and contributes to poor handling... You have a unique pair of stands, side and center stands for this model frame. You have no directionals since they weren't required in the US in 1970. You have a unique centralized oil tank and NO spin on oil filter, but there is a fine mesh screen in the oil tank feed bolt and a less fine screen in the sump plug... There is more...

Your numbers are pretty close to mine, so I would say your parts quality will be similar to mine. At 25,000 miles my cam is pristine and polished from all those miles. I've had no head problems with my original, nor cylinder problems. All things considered, I've done a ton of stuff to my '70 commando to make it a better "rider", not a trailer queen. It kicks ass. Don't be intimidated, because the wealth of knowlege available here makes navigating the road to having an awesome commando very achievable.... (If you're patient, persistant, and do your homework)

Don't mean to venture off topic, but I've not heard of a Comet Norvin. I've seen several twins but never a single--a featherbed frame, perhaps? Sounds like a fun project.
