No Nigel,
I ride my bike and I wear out my tires because I Ride my bike and life is not too short to change out my tires.
cheers,
Thomas

Sometime we see arguments that aren’t there Thomas... I suspect that may have happened here. I’m not saying you should change your method at all, indeed, hats off to you for a very diligent approach.

But as for me... I hate changing tyres, that’s all!

Id also be very interested in trying the Contis. If there is a tyre place that offers please post.

$509.90 for a pair of Continental 100/90/19 Classic Attacks here in Australia.

been there and done that. there is NOT really 318 curves as every little squigle was counted. i spend most of the year in N East Tn . we have the snake and back of the dragon along with a LOT more better roads than the over rated and over populated with squids 129. i ride most weekends and average 100 miles a day on the back roads around here.

Sorry Time Warp,
Its a place in the U S and the road is know as the Dragon,s Tail or tail of the dragon. 318 curves in 11 miles. You tube it and you will get the drift.
Very technical road.
Cheers, Thomas.

With the dedicated rear we are halfway there. It's a wear improvement over the Universal, gauranteed.
What would really be great would be a dual compound dedicated rear, like the Michelin Pilot Road 4s and 5s or the Pirelli Angel GT. I haven't seen anything in Vintage sizes.

Thomas, I know of that road, my reply was a little tongue in cheek, being a Kiwi those tight twisty roads are common.
You would swear they put curves and turns in (NZ) just because they could even if straight was possible but it makes for great motorcycle roads.

May not be much help to you in US but in the UK the front and rear are listed as being in stock so they have been made.

I wonder if that Continental price has VAT because it is around AU$60 cheaper in the UK than here (AU) just for the rear tyre.
Avons are not that cheap (in general) here either so the dedicated Continentals are looking even more attractive even if a little spendy although (haven't checked) ideal wheel rim width might raise its head like the Avon's.

Once that you have decided to stay with 19" rims front and back (as God intended) and have convinced yourself that running a front tire reversed on the rear is okay, there is a very large selection of tires. I would put an 18 on the rear, but rim and SS spokes are in perfect condition. I am likely going to use Roadrider Universals.

I agree with that.
Around that whole area are great roads to explore.
The Blue Ridge PW is kind of pedestrian. Weekends you tend to smell the car in front of you with smoking hot brakes as they don't engine brake. Smells like a bad clutch.
Cheers,
Thomas

thomas
the blue ridge parkway is a federal park and as such you get morons and idiots that have NO clue how to drive. they are there to observe nature and not to drive. you also do NOT want a ticket on it as it is federal offense with a huge fine and last i heard a mandatory court appearance.

I agree with that.

Beat this price for a decent looking and lasting touring tire.

Bridgestone spitfire S11

Use 110/90 19 for rear

https://www.2wheel.com/bridgestone-...MI97OW-JPc3AIVCZ7ACh0uZAzHEAQYAiABEgLZefD_BwE

That particular tire is advertised as a front. The only S11 19" rear I cd find at 2wheel,com was 110/85, which I'd guess is not a good choice for the stock WM2 rim?
The S11 also has a continuous center groove in the tread pattern, which I'd like to avoid.

I sent them a letter, asking if they cd get the Conti rear. If I get good news, I'll post it up.

Time Warp,
you have not been to Deal's Gap have you?
Smoky mountains, Blue ridge PW. The roads are there some very technical. You don't have to be on a race track....but it is much safer. the traffic is all moving in the same direction.
IMHO.

Thomas

Deals gap , blue ridge Pw .. great roads for pensioners in oversized motorhomes .
To me , a good MC road is one where you can not break the speed limit , unless you want to risk your life . No dividing line , no pointers in every bend ..
Technical ? .. Boring is more appropriate ..

The speed limit in the eastern USA is often very low on small back roads. Esp in the north east. 40 is not unusual. It can try your patience.
Most of us are of an age where serious hotshoe work is in the past. Only hobot is ageless!

This is the rear

And if you check out the above website for 4.10 TT100's and read the small print the price is for a pair of tyres, so about 47 quid each. That were I get my tyres! Not a lot of people know that.......they normally sell about 80 squids plus each.

CanukNortonnut and MrRick

The Bridgestone spitfire S11 is a front tire that you reverse to put on the rear. I've been running 100/90 on the front and 110/90 on the rear. Both 19s. I don't ride in the rain if possible so don't know about that and yes it does have the center groove but it doesn't bother me. There are better tires but I think its a very good deal at approx $100 for an all around tire and seems to get fairly good mileage. And its better looking than some tread patterns I've seen.

I don't get on with TT100's, they follow white lines too much and rain grooves are even worse, tyre preferences are subjective but it may be connected to the center groove.
