Right then, WTF are we supposed to do with the oil filler cap? It’s like it’s designed to be tamper proof or something!

Why doesn’t someone (Richard?) sell either a better cap, or a tool like a specially machined nylon socket for the stock one?

As britfan60 mentioned few weeks ago, use a piece of chamois/leather under a pair of pliers or spanner ,as u can see ,it could be easily marked

My dads been bugging me to make him a prototype and Ive been telling him he’s the only one over tightening. Perhaps I should listen to him more often.

Hi,
I have a good solution on my bike.
I don´t know how to post a picture.
Send a mail to Thiel-Motorsport.
Ollie has made it since two years.

I am sure he will send you a picture

Does Ollie make a new cap or a tool?

I just put mine on fingertip snug. A rag or paper towel won't be enough. A leather glove or a chamois under a spanner. That thing is a joke. Maybe it should be thicker with a knurled edge to grab on to. Kind of like Richard 7's custom fuel cap.

I finally got mine open, it's not done up that tight it's just such a good machined fit in the neck. Anyways, I left a small mark on mine :( so I might just polish it back to alloy and then I won't have to worry about marking it again :)

Gents,

Panetone is 100% correct!

Ollie does exactly the tool that I wished for.

He also does a polished stainless steel replacement for those who prefer that idea.

He does some cool other stuff too. I’m sure Ollie would at least double his business if he had an English web site as well!

When I looked at the site previously I couldn't find any Norton parts but I found them today at http://www.thiel-motorsport.de/angebote/special-parts. Click on "Weiterlesen..." to get the full description for each item. Google translator does a pretty good job with the text.

I've got the "Stoßdämpfer- und Auspuffcaps" which replace the plain washers on the exhaust and damper mountings. I got them as a one-off from eBay some time ago but I reckon they must have come from here originally.

What are the views on the oil filter mounted at the front of the frame? The description translates as:

"Here we kill several birds with one stone. The filter performance is significantly improved by a modern, commercial filter cartridge. The oil volume is slightly expanded. Since the filter cartridge hangs in the wind, the cooling capacity is also slightly improved. The biggest advantage is that the "wet sumping" is minimized, because there is a valve in the oil filter that prevents the oil from the oil tank from running back into the engine via the oil pump when the vehicle is not moved for a long time. The kit comes with all necessary attachments and installation instructions. On the motorcycle, we only cut through the existing oil hose to clamp the oil filter kit in between. Spare parts are also available separately for this kit."

Hello,
I will talk to Ollie for an english translation.
He has a lot more in the pipeline like bigbore kits, pistons, exhausts, valveguards,power-commander, maps and tubeless spoke wheels.
Last time I visited him he had a lot of oilpumps on his desk.
I wouldn´t wonder if he is planing something.
He is a strange guy in the mid-fifty´s, but he is living for making bikes better, and believe me he love´s the 961.
His own is a rolling experimental laboratory but the fastest in europe for sure.
He is also the boss in old Ducatis and the new Moto Morinis.

Cheers
Panetone

Ollies cap and dipstick. Black one, Ollies what appears to be rubber oil filler plug sans dipstick. Nice idea, but I'd be afraid of losing my dipstick.
